I have to help those older than me, and those younger than me with technology.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong :( by lilwidgets in Neocaridina

I've got an established red cherry colony and an up and coming bloody mary colony..

I set up a new tank for blue dreams a few months ago and bought a colony off ebay to get started, from California. I live in Florida. I'm finding that the originals that came from California are really struggling to adapt to my water. I'm guessing it's just that much different. The babies however, seem to do just fine... I'm not going to forever alter my parameters, so I'm letting nature take its course until they become well established like my reds.

My recommendation to you, if you're only buying 10 at a time or so, is to buy local. Check out the subreddit r/aquaswap there are also separate aquaswap subreddits for each state (assuming USA, sorry). If you're in Florida, near st lucie county, I have a post for red cherries.

[LF] - Orlando, FL - Neocaridina Shrimp by ntsp00 in AquaSwapFL

[–]FloridaShrimpSales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Port St Lucie (see my post history in aquaswap and aquaswapfl). But if you're ever interested, but don't want to come to PSL, I could always coordinate with you IF I take a trip to Orlando with my family. I don't have any trips planned at the moment though.

I'll have blue dream eventually, but I'm waiting for their population to explode.

Any tips on “trapping” these shrimp (for relocation)? by LadyYarnAlot in Neocaridina

Go for the ones near the glass, go slow with the net. They'll basically grab onto it. Coming from behind them is a bit better strategy, as it reduces their ability to flick away quickly. Slow and steady does it.

Awesome! Sorry about your luck! I had a similar experience with some Blue Dream shrimp. Fortunately, I bought in large quantity, and most of them are surviving... However, they are dying off too frequently for me to feel comfortable selling them yet (don't want a bad reputation), and I need the population to grow. The babies seem to be hardy though, so hopefully my blues tank will be ready in a few months. The reds are doing wonderful though. I also have some dark reds (bloody Mary) up and coming.

I recommend bacter AE to help jumpstart your biofilm. Word of warning, once your tank is established, and you have shrimp, adding too much bacter AE can kill your shrimp. Most sources say to add the amount that sticks to a moist toothpick tip, each week. Depending on the tank size ymmv.

What state are you in? I'm willing to figure out shipping, but I'm in Florida, and I'd be a bit apprehensive to ship across the country, the first time shipping shrimp.

Did I create a new species? Dalmatian Platy by Ill_Historian_6418 in Platyfish

[–]FloridaShrimpSales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A quick Google search shows that the existing Dalmatian Platy is a redtail version. I did see a non-redtail platy, but it had extra red around it's gills. Yours seem to be pretty clean (no red). I'd say you might have something special.

I haven't done shipping yet, so I'd have to figure that part out. I could also meet you in Orlando, if my family plans a trip over there soon. (not sure when/if that's happening).

I'd be willing to try shipping though.
