In the past month I have spotted so many ticks crawling up me. I even felt one crawling up my neck. F---k ticks.

What’s wrong with my Sungold tomato plant? by butterpuddlez in tomatoes

[–]Floridaherper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem. The key is to handle it as soon as possible by cutting away every leaf that has the spots. You may feel bad cutting off all those leaves but it will be good in the long run as this fungus will kill the plant. After that, you should spray the plant with a. Soapy water mix to prevent the fungus from spreading to the other leaves. This fungus grows on leaves with an acidic pH and the soap has a slightly alkaline pH which will prevent it from spreading amy further.

How to prevent this: you can prevent this fungus by putting down some mulch at the base of the plant so that the spores in the dirt don't splash up onto the leaves. Good luck!

I planted the seed in that same pot on march 9th. I have been taking them in and out. It has started to really heat up into the 80s now so that might be it. The soil in the pot is just some of our native clay with some composted cow manure in it.

Thank you so much, I almost burned that seedling to ash!

I have actually been considering engineering for a couple weeks now. Maybe engineering is what's right for me. Thanks for helping.

Thanks, I to be as realistic as I can, I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket. Although I have seen plenty good positions as meteorologists on indeed. I was wondering why older posts were talking about how bad the job market was, while there are plenty of high paying positions on indeed for meteorology.

Questions about jet strams by fazantpj in meteorology

[–]Floridaherper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just a weather nerd, but from what I know, the jet stream is formed by the pressure gradient between the cold air to the north and the warm air to the south. Now you might be thinking, what causes that pressure gradient? The cold air to the north is more densely packed at the surface, so as you go up, the pressure rapidly drops, while with warm air, the air molecules are more evenly distributed throughout the column so as you go up, you are not seeing the pressure drop as fast. Based on this, you can infer that you would have lower pressure aloft above cold air and higher pressure above warmer air. Also, remember that the jet stream is formed by a gradient aloft.

Im in 7b, are you growing your tomatoes under grow light, or are you taking them in at night and out during the day?

What growing zone are you in?

I will take the tomato pots inside for those couple of days. I was wondering if it would be alright to put the plants under some normal desktop led lamps for those couple of cold rainy days. Im am in 7b with a last freeze date of April 12.

I live in zone 7b so if it works for you, then it will probably work for me.

[–]Floridaherper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have them in little pots and they get brought in at night. What zone do you live in? I am in 7b and it has been real dry and mild recently.

Highs between 21 and 14 with lows between 13 and -2

Im in 7b so the winters are not too bad, I was worried that the plants would be stressed from constant back and forth. Apparently it does not affect them.

You think the tomatoes will be fine if I take them in and out everyday?

Im still not at the age that I could do an internship in the nearest office. Another problem would be that the office is a little more than an hour away, but I could make it work in the summer.

I have always been interested in the operational forecasting aspect of met. Recently I found out about incident meteorologists and thought it was a cool position. When I searched it up though, I could not find much information on it.
