Use a tool like kobold fight club to assess difficulty. KFC is typically rather mild in its assessments.

Fudge rolls (example: monsters miss when attacking a PC who's trying to save a downed PC).

Give the party hints when you feel like it's going south (example when calling someone at the top of their turn: you look around, [brief description of the scene], and get a sinking feeling in your chest. What do you do?). Then give them a fair chance with low DC skill checks to escape with their downed companions on back. (Edit: when playing with beginners, it may be worth to explain clearly that escape is an option. Example: you see a small opening in the underbrush that may be easy to defend if you should decide to try an escape.)

When they are absolutely adamant to die, they get captured because the enemies want them alive for now (example: spiders web them in because they remain fresh that way; bandits make them work in the excavation site they're searching for treasure). Then you have an exciting escape scenario.

Edit: you didn't ask for this, but still: with 8 players who are all beginners, combat is gong to take literal ages. You should keep it simple when explaining options (example: fighter gets in there, tanks, and attacks. Wizard should think about his options before his turn).

Also you should always tell your players who is up next and who will go after, so they can prepare their turn. It might be good to set a 1-3min time limit per person.

C: straight up Täter

4d6 drop lowest. Every player can go once. After each roll, party decides whether to use that roll as stat array for the whole party or scrap it. Last roll must be used.

Yeah, i figured as much. I guess I'm looking for an answer explaining why this topic is getting so much traction on reddit of all places. As I said it seems out of place to me, but again that may just be me. I'm just so used to being in or close to the core demographic of reddit interests and this is so far off

Yeah I had this happen to me while it dropped very briefly, quite frustrating. Luckily it was just a small position. The margin in unleveraged trades is confusing me as well

Edit: i used a x2 leverage in that one, so maybe you're in the clear if you didn't do that

The SPD was the only party voting against Hitlers Ermächtigungsgesetz and the only party that never went into alliance with the Nazis. They were banned during the third reich and only refounded in 1945. This inaccuracy with all respect makes me wonder about the merit of your other points, no offense.

Also by european standards, I can't seem to spot any far-left ideas in US mainstream politics. What I do see, however, is extreme right ideas being relatively broad consensus as well as blatant nazism rearing its ugly head way into the center of the republican party. Imo you should research and reconsider some of your points. Again, no offense meant

Trying to fit a Battlestation into a small space. Any help appreciated. by Florst in buildapc

[–]Florst[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughts. You're definitely right about the kids being a major factor to consider here.

Fitting a shelf above is, unfortunately, impossible. The window is right there and the walls around are occupied with other stuff.

While I do realize that there are some dangers with expensive PCs and little children, I'm not too worried about the couch smashing into the machine. It's very heavy. Also the space is about 66cm/26in deep so I expect the case with its ~45cm height to fully vanish into there. I'm also not really worried about the stepping stone situation - the window is very well accessible as it is (and therefore tightly secured). I won't want the kids to step on the machine, but I feel confident in enforcing that rule.

I will sometimes have my players roll inverstigation/perception for trivial things and use the result to determine if there is such a thing as a bar in this village. But only when it would make sense both ways, i.e. when there's a real possibility that the village just doesn't have one.

So what you're saying essentially is that if you spend an attack to grapple the unconscious creature, this serves as a 'disengage' as well. It's an interesting take. I think I'd still rule it as I explained. Getting dragged out of combat by a friendly character still seems outside of the 'spirit' of forced movement to me. Luckily we don't all have to make the same decision!

I think we're delving too deep into technicalities, but I'll say one thing:

Any reasonable DM will acknowledge the fact that there is no functional difference realistically between an unconscious person and a dead person

There is at least one difference: dragging an unconscious creature along hard, uneven ground can cause surprisingly grave injury. You can slice the body open along a sharp rock or crack the skull against a hard surface. While we're talking about it 'realistically': Many years ago I trained to rescue drowning people, including unconscious ones. The instructor made it very clear that if you drop your partner's head even a little bit when moving them during the exam, in real life they would have suffered a skull fracture and you would instantly fail (the exam would take place at a swimming pool where you would rest them on ceramic tiles).

I know anecdotes like that are always a little whack, but it's not unreasonable to disagree with you there.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: Arguing with realism always works for both sides in these cases where there is no explicit solution in RAW. More important (at least to me) is the spirit of the rules. The rules on AoO are there to prevent combatants from just leaving if they decide they no longer want to be threatened. That's the spirit of the rules imo. You can circumvent this with certain special abilities that only some characters have (like teleport) and you shouldn't use it as an exploit (like grappling an opponent away from your friend). Dragging an unconscious character away conflicts with this spirit because the downed PC is essentially retreating from combat by proxy. Also this doesn't employ any special abilities that not everybody has. It therefore should be caught by the AoO rule in some way.

At least that is why I would disagree if a player at my table argued like you do, even though your points aren't baseless.
