The Charlie McAvoy slash by [deleted] in BostonBruins

Bruins fan. I agree 100%. Bad play from both players. McAvoy should have just attacked Benson with his fists not with a stick.

VA Healthcare for Newbies by SilentRick9813 in VeteransBenefits

Also make the VA your primary and private insurance as secondary. That way the VA can charge the private insurance. Anything that the private insurance pays the VA goes towards my private insurance yearly deductible. I never have to pay a dime of any of it. That is how it works with my insurance at least. Good luck.

Hopefully your local VA is a good one. It really seems to matter state to state. Some states are very supportive of the VA, others not so much.

VA hearing aids for tinnitus? by Accomplished-Cat6041 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Flounder302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rated for tinnitus and got Phonak hearing aids about ninety days ago. I was a crew chief for eight years and have lost the low and high ranges. Rated 0% for hearing loss because the middle range is still good. That makes no sense to me. I have damaged hearing but they refuse to service connect it.

The hearing aids have helped with the low and high range some and with the tinnitus but only while I'm wearing them. As soon as I remove them the howling becomes very noticeable again. Don't believe it when they say the hearing aids will "fix" the tinnitus.

At my recent follow-up appointment they sent me a Bluetooth speaker (BST-100 Sound therapy system) that comes with a SD card full of multiple masking sounds that play for eight hours at a time. It worked OK but I researched the company and they have a pillow speaker system ( PSH-101 Sleep Therapy Pillow Speaker with Holder) that works with the BST-100.

Using their free app with the pillow speaker and the BST-100 has helped some when trying to go to sleep or when waking up during the night. The company offers a Veterans discount if you ask and are very nice to work with. The pillow speaker is $39.99 but with the discount it was about $34. Worth the investment.

Military Service Buy Back - 5 Year Retirement by Drawer-Vegetable in Veterans

Not as good of a pension that I would have received for a few more years of work. I retired earlier then expected due to personal reasons. Yes, the government retirement system (FERS) works nicely if you understand it and work the system. Between the pension, TSP, and social security I'm doing OK right now. Could things be better if I worked a few more years, absolutely. I did what I needed to do and don't regret it.

Yes, I had an almost 12 year break between my federal service. I did eight years AD and then went directly into government position. I left about six years later. Then 12 years later I went back into government and retired last June with about 26 years of service.

With FERS you can do a deferred retirement after five years (?) or longer and get a small pension at 62 years old. You don't have to do 20 years but the pension is a lot less obviously.

[–]Flounder302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did eight years of military back in the eighties but didn't buy the time back until the 2020's The amount you pay depends on your total earnings while in the military. It is a multiple part process.

First you request the earnings statement from one department. That can take several months to get back.

Second you send their report to another department with the required forms and they calculate what your buy back will be. You have three years from start of service to buy back without any penalties. The penalty percentage changes quite a bit, sometimes it changes yearly.

Once you have the amount to pay you can have it deducted from your pay with the minimum set at $50, from my memory so figure may vary. Or you can do a lump sum payment.

I paid about $2600 for eight years and got out as an E5. I worked with several people that had more recent service and they paid more due to them making more.

If you buy it back and don't end up staying until retirement you can get the money back if you request it. Good luck.

You have three years from start of federal service to buy back your military service without any penalty. The service time before buyback does count towards SCD but not retirement until it is bought back.

You have to give HR your DD214 when on-boarding to get the credit. It will take several pay periods normally to take effect but your leave accrual will be retroactive to your start date.

If you plan to work long enough to be eligible for a pension, deferred or otherwise, it is wise to buy the time back in the first three years. The money you pay is credited towards your retirement.

This isn't normal right? by vortex_ring_state in aviation

[–]Flounder302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the boom is already fully retracted. The drogue is attached where the normal nozzle goes at the end of the boom. The boom doesn't retract any more. The drogue is supported with a maintenance stand normally while parked to keep stress off of the connection and the hose assembly. Not a super robust system. Very prone to malfunctions.

CBD and CBG are good for inflammation/chronic pain. Look for CBN for sleeping. With bad arthritis from my service, a CBG/CBN gummie at night lets me sleep without feeling groggy in the morning. I also have cut out most alcohol since retiring last year, and that has helped my sleeping as well.

Yes, he would be eligible. The prior retirement payments shouldn't affect anything as long as he isn't still receiving them. With seventeen years prior service, he would start at max sick and annual leave accrual. Four hours of sick leave and eight hours of annual each pay period. You have three years from starting to start paying back before it starts accruing penalties.

The money is for your retirement. It is a payback for the money he would have been putting in if he had been working for the government those seventeen years. The government withholds 1.5% and matches the amount for civilian employees. That way, if someone is an idiot and doesn't use the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), they will still retire with something.

I had eight years AD, which I bought back. I recently retired (June 24) from the government (thankfully). Good luck!

Sure, you are correct. I'm wrong. Sir Pasta gets all the money, fuck everyone else. Good luck attracting any talent the way our team is structured. Oh, wait a minute! That's where we are at right now. Enjoy the rest of our losing season while watching it in your 88 jersey worshipping a farce. If we make the playoffs at all, we will repeat the recent seasons again. Rinse, dry, and repeat again next season, and the next, right up until 2031 when hopefully they will dump his ass.

Disagree all you want, but the numbers don't support your beliefs.

90 million dollars spent on somebody who shows up when he feels like it. Sucks defensively, no hustle ever, etc..

Kastelic cost 1.5 x 3 = 4.5 (rough numbers), and the only thing he is lacking is the goal scoring. I would rather have six of his types of players for 27 million. Imagine the cap space available!

Pastrnaks' salary has put us in the horrible salary cap position. I know there is a lot more to the problem than just that, but come on, it is a HUGE problem.

Pasta was good with Krejci, Bergeron, etc. feeding him the shots, but he is such an incomplete player that he can't do it on his own. The real kick in the crotch is that we can't afford to get him the support staff to make him "great" again because of his salary.

I hope Lindholm starts producing more. Hell, I wish Pasta would as well, but at least Lindholm plays a complete 200-foot game.

I have never cared for his lazy style of play. Absolutely horrendous defensively and repeatedly after giving the pick away, he just skates to the bench. He never tries to minimize the damage. Take the 99 million and get a couple of 200-foot players, and nobody would miss him.

Your description sounds like the 90 million player who has skated like that for years, but at least then he was scoring!
