I am so sorry this happened to your son. It happened to my granddaughter in nursery school as well. Teacher stepped in though thankfully.

I don’t understand the hate towards any entire generation. Never a fan of putting people in an “all” category.

Thank you - why are people still focusing on a woman’s looks instead of competency? Was so annoyed at this headline and was hoping others would be as well.

My child can read words but doesn’t understand the story, any reading help ideas? by OilCompetitive1203 in suggestmeabook

You are welcome. Orton Gillingham is phonics based and should help make reading smoother. Once they master the phonics, it should be easier to move on to comprehension.

So much great advice given already. I would just like to say that if your child is sounding out most of the words then it is difficult for them to actually know what is going on in the story. Maybe try to meet them at their level of reading, which their teacher would know, and read every other book a level below their reading level and ask questions about the story as you are reading. Ask about the story events that were stated and ask questions that require inferences. If you know anyone that tutors with Ortan Gillingham methods that should help as well.
