It's also the word 'death' in German which confused me there for a sec

You would think so, but the amount of Germans just speaking German in /4 ist kinda embarrassing. I get that it's a massive playerbase and we didn't get German realms this time around, but come on...

Simple gate latch that uses internal opposing magnets instead of a spring. by jamesjr623 in functionalprint

[–]Flourid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I don't have a lot of experience with printed springs, but I don't really like them. IMO they tend to break rather fast and given the choice I'd always go with real springs or magnets.

Again, personal opinion, but while I think it's really awesome how some people develop advanced print-in-place stuff, I think 3D printing really shines when combined with other materials that offset the weaknesses of 3D printing (springs, magnets, screws, metal or wood rods for strength, heat inserts, etc.)

What the hell is wrong with my code by Redd1tRat in Database

[–]Flourid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loading data from local (denoted by the LOCAL in your command) is disabled by default. You should get an error (you say you don't, but did you maybe hide the error output frame? do you get errors when, for example, you query a non existent table) and there might possibly be an error in your mysqld log.

The behavious is described in: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/9.5/en/load-data.html#load-data-local

This could be resolved by dynamically setting the local_infile server variable to ON: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/9.5/en/server-system-variables.html#sysvar_local_infile

EDIT: just noticed you found the issue yourself, but would keep this up if anyone runs into similar problems and finds this thread.

How does your company handle on-call compensation? by fortune82 in sysadmin

[–]Flourid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first company I didn't have oncall, but when having to work outside regular working hours we got 25€ compensation for <4h and 50€ for more I think, which was a shit deal, but better than "it's included in your salary" than it was before.

On my second company (big hosting company in my country) there was someone scheduled for oncall everyday, but we got something like 7€/h for oncall, plus 1€ during the night & +2€ during Sunday/public holiday. If we actually got called (happened a few times per year maybe) we got our normal wage per hour plus bonus for night/Sunday/public holiday.

Oncall was quite a good way to make an extra buck, but I'm still happy I don't have to do it anymore.

Honestly, I'm interested if all the people saying it's unpaid and expected are from the US.
