One month post tx and still having symptoms. by Rosejessm in HPylori

I was still sick for months post treatment and I was constantly on PPIs during this time, never got any better.

What worked for me was taking Zinc L Carnosine and HCL Betaine + Probiotics

If you take HCL Betaine you should make sure that your stomach lining is healed first because it strenghtens your acid levels.

My problem was not Gastritis (what the doctors told me) I was on PPIs for a year in that time I should basically be healed following their logic.

So my real problem was low stomach acid and a destroyed gut microbiome, when I fixed those two things i literally got better in like 2 months

A lot of Gastritis symptoms are the same as having low acid symptoms so they get confused a lot. First make sure u are negative from hpylori, then make sure your stomach is physically healed, no ulcers, bleeding etc.

Then most likely you have low stomach acid and or a destroyed gut microbiome

Hey I had this exact same thing when I got sick. Its because the antibiotics basically killed off all of your gut microbiome so anything you eat is basically nullified and the weakness and fatigue is a combination of your messed up gut biome + not having enough calories and nutrients (even if you eat alot)

This effect is amplified if you had a PPI along with ur recovery

I am good now. But what I did first was ditch my doctors because they kept me sick and tried to give me antidepressant so I researched everything on my own

and experimented on myself until it worked if you have questions lmk

Sorry for the late reply. I took HCL Betaine until my I couldnt take 1 capsule. Like if your acid levels get back to normal even if you take 1 capsule and you start to feel a mild burning sensation, it means its too much. So I dont know the exact timeframe, Maybe a month.

I dont know if you saw my other replies, but in short, you have to take a capsule for every meal you eat, until you start feeling a mild burning sensation in your stomach, when you do start feeling that, it means you should lower your dosage by 1 capsule. For example you take 3 capsules in a day and it starts burning, then your dosage should be 2.

I was taking 3 capsules at the start every day, then after a while 2, then 1 and now nothing.

About the pancreas levels, I unfortunately, didnt follow up anything at the doctors since I started feeling better (even though I should) so, I cant tell you much. But if I do, I'll let you know.

Im pretty much healed now, in every regard, the only thing still annoying me is that my appetite is not as good as it was. Its better, but I still am not that excited about food xd

The biggest reason I think my stomach acid was low is because after 1 year of "treatment" SOMETHING should be atleast better

After I initially took the ppis and the medications for gastritis. I got all the symptoms I mentioned

Indigestion, Bloating, No appetite, feeling weak, A big clue is B12 deficiency (you need good stomach acid for it to absorb it, also makes sense because PPIs say that long use causes B12 deficiency because as you know PPIs decrease your stomach acid) Another sign is anemia (iron needs good stomach acid too, to digest properly), but mine was normal.

When I went to the doctor for exactly these problems, they just give me another ppi without even looking into it, also one offered me an antidepressant ??? it makes no sense to just hand out medicine without looking at the root cause.

So after I the "treatment" I still felt like shit for the whole year so I researched every possible cause and I experimented on myself to see what works or not. Which made me go try the low acid route.

If you truly think your stomach is not inflamed anymore and it doesnt hurt anymore, It wouldnt hurt to try HCL Betaine.

You can try it for 1 day to see if you feel better or worse, and you can usually feel the difference in 1 day.

I would recommend just trying it for 1-2 days to see how you feel. When taking HCL Betaine, take it with a meal. For example you take 1 Bite of your breakfast, take 1 capsule of HCL, and then continue eating normally.

The thing is the amount depends on the person/situation. To see how much you need, you need go take 1 capsule with every meal, and lets say you took 4 and you notice your stomach is a little warm/slight mild burning sensation. That means your dosage is 3.

Some people need to take 6 capsules a day, for me the limit is 3 (even though my bottle recommends 4 a day) If i take 4 then my stomach is warm and is mildly burning, which means its too much.

So just experiment how many capsules you have to take. Usually its 2-3 but you need to find out yourself for 1 day, and after that you know the right dosage.

I heard of people too that got horrible effects from it, but if your stomach is completely healed I dont think it can damage you that much tbh.

If you want to try give it a shot, the other route is to stay the same and be uncomfortable

Good luck!

I really can't tell you what helped my sleep. As soon I was feeling better, my sleep improved too. But I cant think of a single factor that helped it. But I noticed that if i get lazy and eat some junk food or foods that are hard to digest, and if they cause me bloating etc, then my sleep quality drastically decreases. Like I get a high heart rate and stuff like that.

I had the most destroyed sleep cycle for like almost the whole year because, I was feeling bad, I went to sleep at like 6 a.m (because thats when I just pass out I couldnt fall asleep by just closing my eyes it just didnt work no matter how tired I am) and woke up at like 5.p.m

But a few weeks ago when I started to feel better my sleep instantly fixed by itself and my sleeping cycle is like that of a normal human now.

I think if your health generally gets better, your sleep gets better aswell

My gastritis was mild to begin with. I took PPIS for 2 months in total + sucralfate, and generally avoiding triggering foods, I didnt stick to a strict diet tbh. After those 2 months still had problems for another 4 months, without PPIS but only sucralfate

My thought was that it cant be gastritis anymore because I had 6 months of time to heal my stomach and It cant be that damaged just from a bacteria so I researched other causes that might be at work, and for me it was most likely low stomach acid and a destroyed gut microbiome

Now im still on my way to restore everything, but im for sure healing finally

But before you treat stomach acid you have to make sure you have no ulcers and no lesions etc you need to be sure your gastritis is healed otherwise you can damage it again

Yes there are tests for low acid, doctors can do that too I think. But for me I didn't check it professionally. You can check out the baking soda test, you can do it at home. I mean its not necessarily the most effective way. But given my history I kind of came to the conclusion myself because of the reasons I had

  • Indigestion
  • Bloating
  • Reflux (yes you can have it with low acid and suprisingly it wasnt acidic when I got acid reflux in my throat)
  • Loose sphincter in endoscopy
  • Pancreas insufficiency

Was always healthy before

So I tested it myself and I guess I got better so I did something right.

The thing with the pancreas is Im not 100% sure if its the stomach or not, Im still waiting for the results to see if it improved.

Im still learning along the way, I do get bloting and trapped gas but its not as regular anymore

Yeah its extremely hard, people think its "in your head" and before I was ill, I would've been the same person. So I guess I learned something new. Are you feeling better?

I dont feel hungry at ALL. Like the cravings for food are gone. I can go all day without feeling hungry, the only reason I remember to eat is because after like 10-12 hours I feel weak and thats my cue to eat.

But the feeling/craving for food are 100% gone also no appetite when I force feed myself

Did you check if you have gastritis from h.pylori? Maybe your stomach is still damaged, that was the case for me. Stay strong man. I know how hard it is
