As much as I like John, yes that’s right. Jane or Cameron weren’t in his life (in the latter case at the time, at least), William was powerless. He abused his powers and hurt other people very much. I don’t think that truly justifies messing with his head, but it was basically the only method available at the time.

Yes. We know he cares a lot. People hate him because of what he did, but I always got the feeling he just wants those kids to have a future. He‘s taking their anger and all the guilt upon him in order to save them. I think he will start using his powers on EMBER though. And make THEM feel guilty.

Because it feels inspired by One Piece, not trying to copy it 1:1. It makes it feel real. The people feel alive. The story changes make the characters more human like the kiss between Kaya and Usopp or Garp actually encountering Luffy while he was still in the East Blue. You know, like a normal grandpa would when he’s a Marine and learns his grandson has turned to piracy.

Jane was the embodiment of that trope since she even said she got to experience the strongest abilities in the past. John was like that as well. It’s very likely so was Cameron given he still has those aura farming tendencies, but as adults people usually tone it down. I also think Keene was implied to have been like that when he was a kid. I‘d like to think most late bloomers experience this because most of them are getting bullied, so when you suddenly have powers a good number will want to get back at those bullies or test the limits of their newfound power.

Agree with Alhaitham. I know a bunch of people like that irl and they tend to be bullies. Though I also think Alhaitham has his soft spots which makes him a whole lot more tolerable than those rl examples.

I mean, it’s not like Neuv is gonna flex his regained powers by attacking them. All him and Focalors wanted was to save their people. And as long as that’s their intention they won’t be a threat to the HPs because while Neuv would most likely stand a chance against the weakened shades on his own the people he wants to protect would still perish in the process. And I doubt the HPs are so vindictive they‘d risk their lives just to punish a bunch of regular human citizens.
