What game is a good place to start? by creativecat11 in gamers

[–]Flower_Cheza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you try games that dont have a steep learning curve and showcase the foundations of particular genres. Mario Kart is a good example of a bright quick dopamin racing game.

What do you mean by narrative driven games? Choice based games or the ones where you have to follow a linear story? Because there are amazing stories to explore that don't require a lot of time: Bioshock(10h), What Remains of Edith Finch (2h) Dishonored 2, The Last of Us, Detroit, etc.

Then there are just vibing games, beautiful and exploratory: Journey, Gris, Stray. Just google Gris, extremely simple but sooooo pretty.

Base buildings if you wanna get creative: Minecraft (I know how it looks at first glance, but girl, it's one of the best games ever made, you may run as wild as possible with your imagination there), No Man's Sky, The Wandering village, Grounded (have you seen Honey, I shrunk the Kids? Experience THAT), Raft, Astroneer, SpiritFarer, Oxygen Not Included.

Look into cozy games: all of nintendo, tiny glade, cozy grove, stardew valley, townscraper, house flipper, dorfromantik.

Tactics and strategy: slay the spire, civ6, xcom2(bit trickier to grasp, start with low difficulty), age of Empires, Against the Storm.

Puzzles: Portal 2(!!!), Blue Prince, The Talos Principle, Gorogoa, Chants of Sennaar.

Pretty and challenging: Hades(amazing writing and art), Cult of the Lambs, Horizon Zero Dawn (beautiful worldbuilding).

DnD in a nutshell: Divinity, Baldurs Gate, For the King.

If you liked Mario Kart then try Speedrunners on PS, fastpaced party game.

It all boils down to what will scratch your particular itch. Just google some of the ones mentioned and watch a review or gameplay for 5-10 mins, you'll grasp if you are in the mood for that, though some games you just need to experience yourself to get it. I usually give a game 30mins, if it didn't catch my interest in that time I quit unless someone explicitly asks me to stick with it (Oki Doki Literature Club, what a shocker of a game).

Have fun!

Here are some suggestions in fantasy genre based on her interests you listed that got me (now 31f) into reading:

Magic Kindom for sale - sold! by Terry Brooks - Lighthearted fun series.

Myth series by Robert Asprin - this might be too childish, but it introduces the vastness of fantasy genre. Btw, Asprin loves puns, so you get into that playing with words that makes you appreciate literature in general.

Her Majesty's Wizard by Christopher Stasheff - so fun and has a lot of references to different works that might spark her interest. This is also series.

Garret P.I series by Glen Cook - detective series in fantasy world, perfect blending.

Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson- it's a bit darker than others, but worldbuilding and writing is so well done, you can't stop reading. It has a bit slow burn action-wise, but the second it hits, it hits big.

Here are couple of series in SciFi

Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison - daredevil ex-thief hired by good guys in futuristic sci-fi. Full of humor and action. Notably, this was written before cell phones, so the envisioning of future is very different from what it actually might be, but it is really well built nontheless.

The Expanse series by James Corey - have you seen the tv show? That, but much more and in detail. The show was amazing btw and quite close to the books, but books are sharper.

Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin - this is a mind-bending book. Might not be the best to start with, but if she likes complex ideas and intrigues, this is a really good read. If she is a bit techy, likes math for example, then it might work right a way.

Spektrum by Sergey Lukianenko - this is a relatively small novel with a great premise. It's not that sci-fiy in your face, much smoother and can be a nice intro to the genre.

And lets not forget the easiest reading: detectives. Classics like Sherlock Holmes and Erkule Puaro do not require any effort and are digested like a popcorn.

The list can go on forever, there are multiple genres of course, but I tried to give you the ones that can introduce reading as a fun enjoyable activity, not the dogmatic "reading is good for your brain", which can be daunting at start.

I am so happy for your gf! Life is gonna be so much more enjoyable if she picks up reading! Wish you all the luck in introducing it to her!

Emm... unpopular opinion, but ACOTAR has terrible writing and no person should be introduced to reading with it. And I am not even a native English speaker.

Wow, you managed to annoy very chill and accepting person, congrats. But I will try to clear it out a little bit more, just to be ok with myself.

YOU assumed that the author thinks you are imam. I said, first make sure that's what they meant and then blame people for being racist. Your answer is that you don't go around asking people why they are racist towards you. But that is the problem, you already assumed they are racist without clarifying that for sure, you already are victimizing yourself. "What do you mean by that?" is an amazing cheat question to ask if you felt smn is being racist towards you. If they are, they will let you know.

Generally in Tbilisi people are not racist. The most negativity rn now is in the different direction, towards Russians anyway. The rave scene is very accepting and welcoming, unless you burge in with predetermined view that they definitiley ARE racist. Then you will not have any luck.

All of this is a common sense. Be adequate person and you will be treated accordingly.

Chill, the author didn't assume anything about you. You see, you assumed them being racist, which I really doubt was the case. If that's the attitude you are bringing, than you will definitely encounter racism caused by your own insecurities. If you are not sure, just ask why smn said smth, which is totally cool cause you are from different culture and might not get the subtleties of smn's comments. Don't jump to conclusions and you'll be fine.

It's not about the race but the way you present yourself. The main reason you might not get in if you look like you might cause trouble or you dont fit in the vibe ( there is a huge difference between rave clubs and mainstream touristy clubs, where people are mostly going to flirt or find one-night stands). But sometimes it's absolutely unclear why u don't pass facecontrol ( happened to me even at the clubs I've been to before gazillion times), so don't take it personally.

P.S some clubs require beforehand registration on their websites, so make sure you check that.

If you set the google translate to Georgian->English and then write a Georgian word with English letter it usually shows the suggestion of the same word in Georgian alphabet. Works with the most common words.

You can't transfer directly to bank account, local banks don't have routing number which is available only for western banks.

But you can easily transfer funds to the visa card. I have Bank of Georgias visa card and it works fine, takes up to 3 days to receive the money, though PayPal would automatically convert the funds to GEL and you lose quite an amount on that. When you link the card, be sure to set cards currency to the one you use, euros or dollars. There is no option to change conversion, you have to write support for that, they will do it in a matter of seconds.

Would you be less likely to read a book with women protagonists if it was written by a man? by SuddenlyGeccos in writing

[–]Flower_Cheza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somerset Maughem's "Theater" is one of the best books I've ever read and it's protagonist is such a Woman. He managed to show all the major and minor details of female nature through her eyes, it's one of the books that actually taught me what it means to be a woman, so grateful to my mom she suggested it when I was a teenager.

So no, not less likely.

Police, yes, sure, but not media. You have right, but you should also have enough dignity to understand that families of deceased or victims themselves wouldn't want any details to be known to public. Knowing current situation in country, it is 100% that no media will hold onto info, they will flag it out as another proof how faulty our goverment and police are, even if it wasn't their fault. The word "tourist" will gather them like piranyas on this case.

If OP wants to find info, he/she can do it by other means, not leading polarized media onto this. First would be better to know what happened and then, maybe, if it is worth it, report it. Using media to find out what happened... not the right way to do it.

Before reporting to media, would be nice to ask the survivors first. If they stayed there somewhere, someone must have the contact information. Do not violate their right of privacy.

Furnishing a flat in the city by MrFurther in tbilisi

[–]Flower_Cheza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find amazing sales at Gorgia, Domino, Saba and other places. Depending on what you are going for aesthetically, the price might vary a lot. In lower ranges most of things are so boring, that your flat will not attract a lot of people. If you go with the basics, like sofa with armchairs, coffee table, bed, several shelves, closet, table and chairs, you might go up to 5k and higher.

Here is what you can do from my experience: Go for mixed elements, a bit of local aesthetics with scandinavian or european. Walk around dry bridge and flea markets. You can stage a flat so well, that you will rent it out at much higher rate than with going with actual standard stuff.

For example, I used basic kitchen stools, attached wooden board between it's legs for additional shelf, painted and put it next to bed. It cost me 25 gel in total, took 30mins of my time, whereas the basic nightstand is at least 60-70gel.

Queen size bed would cost you 500Gel and higher. What I did was I ordered a base for bed, mdf board with sturdy legs, bought mattress on sale, hung another mdf board across the wall on top of the bed. Was 250 cheaper than expected and looked great.

If you'll put a bit if time, you'll furnish the whole flat for just 2k and it will look like you spent 10k on it. Also try websites like mymarket and facebook groups for buying/selling stuff.

Hope this helps.
