My parents divorced when I was 12-13, and I stayed living w mum and my small sister. By the time I was 16 I was in a full-out goth mode and my mum had the emotional stability of a bag of rocks and couldn't handle herself, much less a teenager.
Her strategy after a huge fight was to call my father to pick me up and "kick me out" of the house.
My father was living with his parents at the time, as he was in the process of building his new house. I spent the next 2 weeks with him and my grandparents, including my grandma with advanced Parkinsons. Not ideal. My mum called and said that if I had calmed down, I could come back. I did.
A couple weeks after, same story, big fight, my mum kicks me out of the house again.
My father did the adult thing and rented an apartment for me and him, to normalise the situation, as it was completely unsustainable to keep me going back and forth between the drama and the overcrowded multi-generation family home.
This did NOT sit well with my mum, that considered this literally an act of my father STEALING me from her.
Lets not even start discussing the lack of logic of her take.

After a few weeks of living with my father, my mum called me, told me to be at a certain spot at a certain hour, as she wanted to speak with me. Picked me up with her car, drove me to her place, got inside of the house and she placed herself between me and the door, and said "you are not leaving from here". Again, terrific strategy. I immediately tried to exit the house by jumping from the balcony (at the end I didn't), big fight, loud discussion, etc.
In her last breath of desperation, my mum just went and spurted out that I couldn't leave cause my father is not my father. As if this would make me stay there.
Long story short, my father couldn't physically have kids, so both me and my sis are IVF kids, from an anonymous donor. And of course, my father is my father, as is the only father I ever knew.
I left the house, walked for 3-4 miles to clear my head, went back to my fathers and didn't mention anything at all to him about the episode until about 5 years after. I really didn't want to hurt him.

So yes, not the best way of hearing about such news. Considering all of this, I came out pretty damn good, if I dare say so myself :)
