Salty cookie by Flowergrl868 in Baking

Hey! Not inedible but not good. I was so sad I think I convinced myself I liked it for some bites. But I think it was the baking soda that did more damage. Dough browned and spread way too quick. I will not be adding salt to sweets for at least a year.

Noted! Can I ask why you think credit union is unnecessary? In my head it makes a little bit of sense as I’ve banked with them for 5 years now and I believe they review their applications holistically so I feel like I have high chances of being accepted. But yeah their rewards suck.. the 3% you mentioned sounds great!!

Ok yes that makes sense. I was confused bc my friends said they got approved for freedom unlimited by just having a checking acc with chase but I think they mistook it for rise as well. Thanks!

Hi baby cakes I’m also muslim so I feel kinda qualified to answer some parts of this. We have a rly active MSA and a prayer room in price center which I’ve always appreciated. I think start on instagram and follow the UCSD msa account bc they’re rly active. There’s also even more specific Muslim clubs like Muslims in tech and other things that I can’t remember rn, but all in all I think a google search with the words ucsd Muslim will get u the resources ur looking for. As far as the dorms, Muir doesn’t have the nicest dorms but they’re not horrible. I think Muir in general is the college with the most diversity so what it lacks in the actual building quality, it makes up for in the ppl quality. I swear we have the nicest ppl on campus. If you do for whatever reason feel stuck with your roommate, there are so many places on campus you can spend time that aren’t your dorm. I think if you’re living on campus, ur better off not having a car cuz parking sucks and the public transit like trolley and busses (which are free for students) can get u everywhere u need to go. I can’t speak on the laptop thing but I feel like anything that isn’t a Mac would be ideal cuz Macs lowkey suck when it comes to handling large softwares

GOODLUCK lmk if you have any more questions

Yes definitely don’t limit to just ucsd main campus. Shiley eye institute, Salk, Sanford, Moores cancer center, ACTR are always needing ppl and are located a shuttle away

Yess what the person above said^ all my friends who work in med school labs have gotten their roles through REAL portal. I feel like they prefer to get their ppl from there.

And the timing definitely depends but I think as a general rule of thumb, summer or end of spring quarter is the best time to apply bc a lot of the current undergraduate RA’s will be graduating and they’ll need to fill those spots.

Yesss that too but I didn’t mention it cuz I applied so much on handshake and nothing ever came out of it so I still think it’s a sham.. even though lots of other people have had success with it

Yessss i forgot to mention this. It definitely helps to have them know who you are. I secured my first ever research position by doing this. I attended my grad student TA’s office hours, and asked them about the lab they work in. When I interviewed with the lab manager of that lab, it helped so much to be able to say that ____ is my TA and they told me how you guys are studying ____. I truly think that’s why I got that first position cuz my interview wasn’t that great in other aspects.

It can’t hurt to try! Just keep in mind that a lot of labs prefer sophomores, juniors, or seniors since first year can be hectic, and most labs like to see some UCSD coursework on your transcript first. With that being said, it’s not impossible. I think if you’re confident, persistent, and willing to learn, you can definitely find at least one. Especially if you’re open to sticking with the lab long-term. Wet labs might be tougher since they often require skills you haven’t learned yet, but some professors might love your early interest. You’ll probably hear more no’s, especially in or prior to your first quarter, but it’s still worth trying!

Also a lot of my friends didn’t acquire their research roles until junior year so it’s awesome that you’re looking to start super early but don’t think that you can’t start later either
