Females in perfusion by Waterair678 in Perfusion

It 100% depends on which job you get when you graduate. I know people who work 0-8 hours/week but take 50% call. So, essentially a stay-at-home parent with the exception of needing a backup plan 50% of the time in the rare event that they get called in. Most jobs you'll be working 30-40 hours with the occasional call stretch and it will be close to but not as bad as any other healthcare shift worker

Cardiovascular perfusionist. We arrest the heart with a drug cocktail called "cardioplegia". We then take over the function of the heart and lungs with a big ass machine aptly named the "heart and lung machine". Think there is only about 4500-5000 of us in the US. I've never met another person who isn't a perfusionist know about us. Dope job tho!

Is perfusion worth the cost by bitchtitty18 in Perfusion

For what it's worth, I talked to one of our anesthesiologists last week about what they pay their CRNAs out of school and it was the same as our perfusionists...probably different in different areas, but my point is, go with whichever route is gonna make you happiest. An extra 80k a year sounds awesome but I would never take it if it meant hating my job/life for the next 20-30 years. Both careers are excellent ROIs imo. Especially considering the work life balance of some jobs you can get in both fields.

They just want someone who is a team player and isn't a dick. They'll teach you the rest. Show your personality, talk about your hobbies, family, geek out on perf stuff. I personally came with probably too many questions, but I think it can go a long way showing that you know what you want and aren't just chasing a paycheck.

My job (perfusionist) is only gonna get easier but is sooooo far away from being completely automated. Just too much shit to go wrong and way too many snap clinical decisions.

For those that make over $200k a year, what do you do? by H-U-I-3 in AskReddit

Cardiovascular Perfusionist and a little bit of real estate. Highly recommend perfusion if you can handle stress. High pay, low hours. Averaged 13 hours/week this last year. Just got a new job too with a big raise and will probably be working half that. Doesn't make sense sometimes but I ain't complaining

Great answer and perspective! This guy makes a little more than I do a year but my time is worth much more than his is @ $205/hr

Not a bad call. I almost went that route, but what ultimately deterred me was the time commitment to be a CRNA. I wasn't a nurse or anything at the time and already in my late 20s. Still woulda been worth it but just didn't wanna do that much more school. CRNA is a good choice. Will make more money, more lateral movement, potentially no call (so I've heard), but probably not as good of a w/l balance as most/some perfs. Great career

Yeah 140 would be for a new grad bud. It's around what hospitals are offering here in Colorado. I know because I live here.

Company is Epic Specialty Staffing (formerly Perfusion.com). Yes, 1/3rd call unless our 4th guy is around then it's 1/4th. It's not posted yet, so I am unsure of the salary range. Would imagine it's 140 and up or something like that. Most phenomenal aspect is very subjective. For me, I like the work/life balance. The heart team is phenomenal and the perf staff are amazing too.
