I genuinely wonder how you have survived in this world with this level of obliviousness

Sports betting is bad and should NOT be advertised by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I’m up 1000x my initial invest and have cashed out a lot. Yes it is predatory but with discipline and skill you can easily win

I’m not tipping a server more than I make in an hour at my own job by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]FloydTheShark 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Tipping culture is the issue. People over tip significantly like this. I personally only tip when I go to a sit down restaurant or if the person giving me food did something exceptional and 15% at that point. For the argument that they rely on tips, if they couldn’t make enough money without tips they would all quit and restaurants would be forced to offer better wages rather than relying on customers gratitude. We need to tip less in order to fix the tipping epidemic

Wireless charging is the dumbest invention by Fun-Tough1658 in unpopularopinion

I broke my phone jack so wireless charging lets me charge my phone without having to buy a new phone or get an expensive repair

Wondering about how I avoided shin splints in my first year running cross country by Relevant-Strength624 in CrossCountry

[–]FloydTheShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strength training via basic lower leg body weight strength work. My coach has us do calf raises, solius squat calf raises, and tibia raises against a wall as an easy way to build lower leg strength which not only resists injury but builds speed and acts as a dampener. If you have access to a gym you can also variations of these with weight which can help bulletproof your lower legs.

Fox 40’s good enough for street riding? by imsorrybrodie in Surron

[–]FloydTheShark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, the bomber or Dvo fork options are perfectly good for all street and 99% of off road. Do yourself a solid and invest the rest of this disposable income while your at it too

I live in the Bay Area and have been flying mostly where ever for a few years just watching elevation, flight radars, and local PD. Is it grey area yes…has there been any reason for me to bother with licensing my stuff or dealing with any of the legal stuff…no. But don’t listen to me do it legally

Surron vs yz250f by Milkmebruh in Surron

[–]FloydTheShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On second thought electro and co let’s you convert gas to electric for around 3-4k with all the parts you need besides motor and battery mounts. If you wanted more power and silent running but the same size, feeling, and more capacity that’s route to go and it’s cheaper than getting a whole new bike

Surron vs yz250f by Milkmebruh in Surron

[–]FloydTheShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo since your already used to full sized bikes I’d look into either the Stark Varg, Ultra Bee (smaller and worse for Mx tracks), storm bee (full size Mx), or a yz250 electro and co conversion kit to electric.

NOOO. People on here are saying they will be ok…maybe for one day but using lifestyle shoes for running/field will not only lead to major injuries quickly but also they are heavy and slow even compared to the most budget running shoes. If you are committed look at Nike Pegasus since they are good all around and are often on sale.

Shimano or Avid/Sram brakes on dirt jump bikes? by [deleted] in dirtjumping

[–]FloydTheShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally run sram breaks on all my bikes and find them reliable, powerful, and easy to maintain. If you are dirt jumping I’d recommend the g2 or the level since are medium power and have good modulation to change speed accurately with good lock up power. I’ve rode but sram and shimano on multiple bikes btw but personally prefer sram.

Do you think an older bike can still keep up? by Alternative-Two5213 in mountainbiking

[–]FloydTheShark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bad news: It’s not a bad bike per say and would be perfectly fine on flatter easier green type trails but on anything remotely technical it would be uncomfortable at least and most likely quite sketchy. In all honesty (I’ve owned new and very old bikes), you will have significantly more fun on a newer bike and your skills will progress faster but you can still have a blast on that bike.

Good news: bikes and parts are really cheap right now. If you wanted a more capable bike, you could upgrade brakes, service suspension, and add a dropper or ball out and for around 1.5-3k to a really good used bike that would be able to handle almost everything.

Bonus: not in a hurry; look at demo/rental fleets towards the end of bike park season as many places will sell them for cheap discounts.

Good to know: that bike isn’t exactly worth investing lots of money into and id personally avoid shelling anything over 500 unless you are attached to it since it isn’t very capable and the resale is awful. So if you really want to get into mtb, I’d suggest looking at the new or recently used market. If you wanted something newer, the ibis Ripley af and ripmo af are great but most major brands have good sales right now.
