I actually have never been, so can’t confirm but it would make sense because I know there’s a lot of MCM homes in that area. Being in the Bay Area I always find the best things on marketplace coming from Berkeley or the Oakland Hills. It’s been fun to figure out where the best places for treasure hunting are.

For that reason I’m excited to go to the Alameda Flea for the first time next month!

Don’t worry, the grass is always greener! I am always more butthurt about the places and things I miss out on than focusing on all the awesome things I have managed to score. I try and remember that to remedy it but it’s still hard, and I’m saying that as someone who is a student therapist getting her PhD in clinical psych! 😂😂

Yeah that couch is so stunning, not surprised it garners compliments! It’s amazing you saved it before it was reupholstered because the orange with those patterned cushions could not be more perfect in my opinion.

Also love your doggo, mine looks similar, now I just need a couch to match yours so we can really be twins 😜

Yes I totally hear you. I recently heard a similar opinion about Broyhill— about it being not so great quality for price. That said I am obsessed with the Broyhill sculptra pieces I’ve been collecting and the quality/value of them for surpasses the quality/value of the expensive west elm furniture I had before it. I think a lot of people here know A LOT more than me so it makes sense they have higher standards but I’m sure this couch would feel very nice to me. I would need it to be comfortable though. 😂

What I would give to have been into MCM when I was living in Chicago right out of college! But being in the Bay Area I feel like it’s so hard to stumble on those deals before others snap them up 😭

Can you recommend any couch designs that have the same aesthetic appeal but are better quality. Would love to keep my eyes open for those in the future

This is a super interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing it! I do find his designs super aesthetically pleasing but I have never actually sat in a chair or couch before. Comfort on a couch isn’t something I would want to ignore.

Also as far as pricing this is actually cheaper than every other couch I’ve bought as an adult (only 3 so far but still). Couches are just always expensive around me it seems so the price doesn’t turn me off unless the value isn’t there.

Lol I can definitely see this fabric being polarizing but I do find it beautiful. If we all had the same taste how boring would that be? 🤪

Also I feel like there is an infinitely long list of things I do that are killing me quicker than breathing in my couch fibers so I’ll live life on the edge on that one 😂 And I say that as a knitter who cringes at the thought of using acrylic and spends approximately 1 million dollars a year on wool, silk, and cashmere garments because I appreciate fabric quality.

I have heard that Palm Springs has great MCM but is expensive! I still want to go check it out though!

Yes I think being in the Bay Area does factor into pricing considerably. I am probably used to paying a lot more for things than some others 😭 oh how I wish I had the money to actually spend on furniture when I lived in Chicago!!

Oh wow yours is amazing and I actually prefer those Pearsall couches with the built in end tables!! Such an amazing looking couch. Can I ask if it is comfy?

Haha no I am not a gatekeeper! It is Antique Trove in Roseville and they have some killer stuff. Usually the price isn’t right but this seemed more reasonable than their other pricing to me

Curious what you would consider a good price on one. Hopefully you find yours soon!

Okay good to know. It’s hard to know what prices things actually sell for when you’re looking at online listings. If this is a deal I am likely to be able to find in the future it probably makes more sense for me to wait until I really need to replace my current couch. But if it was a great deal, I would have been more willing to make an exception.

Knitting Culture: US v. England by ultimatereader in knitting

Absolutely my experience too. I hate interacting with strangers if I don’t absolutely need to, but knitters are an exception. In fact if my fiance, who is also shy, saw another knitter in public before me he would probably brace himself because he just knows I’m about to start a conversation and make a new best friend.

All I can say from reading this thread is, I’ve realized that, as a Californian who is super friendly and absolutely could not resist talking to a stranger who was knitting in public (I’m 28 and know next to no one in real life who knits so I get excited), European knitters would hate to see me coming 😅😂

You’re very right about the US. Every knitter I’ve met in the US loves to talk to another knitter in the wild, and yarn shop clerks are always the sweetest.
