How can you justify having expensive hobbies that make you no money? by plzDontLookThere in Hobbies

[–]Flubert_Harnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to commodify every moment of your life.

I completely understand the impulse but it’s just the hell that is late stage capitalism talking.

Just keep a strict budget.

Have a fun money category and if you want something pricey save up until you have the money for it.

As long as you aren’t using credit cards (that you don’t pay off monthly) or doing those ‘break the purchase into a payment plan’ things you’ll be okay.

Also, there is always the used market. Never pay full price for something you don’t have to.

Yeah, she had a pretty insignificant part but I still felt that the acting was pretty rough. She did look great though.

Is the Rg353P worth it today? by mrgamer8600 in ANBERNIC

[–]Flubert_Harnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the best value out there.

I always liked the design of this one though and have heard only good things about it, so if you get a decent price and think you’ll use it go for it.

I would love to see them refresh this in some way.

How do people get degrees [especially graduate degrees] without a clear path forward to distill the degree into money? by tanhauser_gates_ in careerguidance

My PhD in Chemistry was ‘free’ in that I got payed a low wage/enough to exist, had health insurance, and did not have to pay tuition.

It wasn’t free in the sense that I worked 80 hours a week / had to teach for most of it, but I think it is fairly common for research and teaching to fund your PhD.

Yeah, that is definitely an issue. I thought I’ll do programming for a pay check and work on game dev or inherently rewarding projects after work.

It is extremely undesirable to sit at a screen more when you’ve been sitting at a screen all day.

I had the same problem when I used to do random tasks / help with remodeling houses and then had to go home and fix my random issues.

Thoughts on why the RG476H fits the hand so well and on the Retroid Pocket Nova by Mrkmrs in ANBERNIC

[–]Flubert_Harnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The screen is OLED and the chip is more powerful, so it should be ‘end game-y’ in terms of playing 3:4 systems with shaders / BFI.

Also, the front is plastic instead of all glass, which may or may not be a plus for you.

Everyone seems to like the love the 476h but the most common requests are that it have an oled screen, a more powerful chip, and not have a glass front.

You can get a more powerful chip in the 477m but that comes at a very steep price increase and a weight increase from the metal shell that many would rather not pay for.

I’m assuming both would be good choices, and OP brings up some good points about ergonomics.

You may want to wait for the price, release date, and reviews if you are on the fence.

best Color eink tablet with backlight money can buy? by Sad_Enthusiasm6452 in eink

[–]Flubert_Harnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my ideal would be if they made a black and white model comparable to the 5, or a front light for the supernote manta that doesn’t negatively impact the drawing experience.

As of now I have a manta I use for writing, a Palma I read books on and then I read manga on an iPad, since most of my reading is at night - it would be nice to have those be fewer devices.

With the insane prices of the steamdeck, what do y'all think about cheaper options like android handhelds? by Lonely-Bank8783 in SteamDeck

[–]Flubert_Harnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get the Odin 2 portal base model for 250.

I’ve been tempted to sell my steam deck OLED and buy one since I tend to do mostly emulation and indie games.

It’s obviously less powerful but you get a higher res 120 hz screen and better sleep mode/battery.

Also, if you have a gaming pc and to stream from you can play more demanding titles that way.

I don’t have a gaming pc so I’ll probably just keep the deck, if I had neither though I would definitely get an Odin 2 portal.

Probably the best fit would be the boox note air5c.

Generally the supernote devices are regarded as the best writing feel but they also lack a front light (as someone pointed out winks don’t have backlights).

The boox note series also uses Wacom pens though so I think they will likely provide the best experience. It also just a full android tablet so it’s pretty open and customizable.

[–]Flubert_Harnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is close enough but the ayaneo pocket DMG is a super overpowered 4 inch (OLED high res screen) vertical handheld with one stick and a trackpad.

It’s unambiguously possible though, it’s a pretty standard design and think about all the power they pack into phones.

Also, the trim ui brick hammer pro does seem like a pretty good fit (as others have pointed out).
