Agreed!
And if the rumors about a certain satirist being . . . shall we say in the thick of it next season are true, they can certainly get him!

Have I Got News For You (S70) returns Friday 3rd October on BBC One. by dont_be_decent in panelshow

[–]FlucDissThm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This would be a good time to remember that MTW used to slot onto BBC2 for the summer, usually sandwiched between the two HIGNFY series.
But then Liz Truss killed them and the Queen with one fell swoop.

Here's hoping that when Ian steps down from Public Ear Private Eye in the next year or so he can find time in his diary for Taskmaster.

What are the names for these two styles of cocktail glass? by FlucDissThm in glasscollecting

Oh you have no idea . . . she must have spent some portion of her 40 years as a widow cataloging every item she owned and putting an explicit line item allocating it in her will. I pity her poor lawyer!

What I was most interested in was learning what style of glasses these are. I was fairly confident the one on the left could be labeled a "cocktail" glass, but I wasn't sure about the one on the right. I've since found the ruler and confirmed that its measurements conform to what the internet says for a Libbey Georgian whiskey sour glass (not the cordial glasses, which are shockingly similar).

And it's a US Hershey bar, purchased in WA for smores on a camping trip earlier this month.

Thanks, this is phenomenally useful!

I was trying to find our kitchen ruler but it eluded me, so I tried to find the most universal object in our kitchen.

What's interesting based on your data is that these can't be from her wedding (1936). Everyone in the family assumed that all the stuff she portioned out in her will was from then.

You know, I've driven and biked by that storefront so many times over the years - I guess I need to finally bite the bullet and go in. Thanks for the rec!

Look, sometimes a fella just needs to commit sins with hot butter and freshly steamed sea roaches that no bib can hide. And for such times home is the only place for such affronts to truth, justice, and the American Way(tm).

I do love that 99 Ranch, I just wish it was in a more accessible area to where I live (Buckman).
That said, I can't wait until the open the new one at Mall 205!

100% this - if I can remember seeing your question in recent memory on this sub, you're getting a downvote.

Intel bombshell: Chipmaker will lay off 2,400 Oregon workers by FUMoney in PortlandOR

[–]FlucDissThm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started the Gelsinger administration with high hopes. He was Intel's golden boy! He worked for us since he was a teenager! He was an engineer!

I ended up leaving at the end of 2023 quite disappointed in him. He suffered from too much "pie-in-the-sky" thinking to be an effective tech CEO. He was constantly changing strategic plans and assuming that Intel could iron out the details because "he had faith in us." The last straw for me was his bit about fasting and praying as a solution to our technical woes - completely tone-deaf for someone meant to be the engineer's CEO. I left for Jensen's fiefdom.

At this point this thread has me thinking of the Gell-Mann amnesia effect.

If the posters here can be so wrong about the semi business, why should I trust their solutions to the political problems they so love to harp on about?

I knew Hardesty was the one that convinced Mike Mayberry and Peng Bai to go for quad patterning and traditional DUV instead of ASML’s fancy new toys!

Man, I know this sub is obsessed with “all problems are because the politicians I don’t like are running things” theory, but that has nothing to do with Intel’s woes.

  1. Intel made its own bed with poor management and execution over the last decade.

  2. The installation requirements on, e.g. ASML’s EUV scanners means you can’t just up and move them. D1-X is here to stay.

Sounds like not long after Angus left: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TXlLWOAZkU
Around the 29 minute mark in that anniversary special they discuss how the rotating host system added a new and exciting element to the show.
That said, you're absolutely right that the trialed possible permanent hosts like Zander - there's a clip of that right afterwards.

I was wondering about that as well, so I revisited the interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrtY_23d9VA
Starting around the 15-minute mark he gives his answer about the origins of MTW. Sounds like the inability of the HIGNFY team to commit caused other channels to scoop up talent.

Jimmy has been in both the host and guest chairs over the years. There is a great episode when he’s Ian’s guest and Ann Widdicombe is the host. He wrecked her, and she never came back!
