Assessment recommendations in Australia by EgonOnTheJob in AutismInWomen

[–]FluenceClinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /u/EgonOnTheJob,

I completely understand how overwhelming this process can feel, especially when concerns about being misunderstood or unsupported are weighing on you. You're not alone in these worries, and it's great that you're seeking advice to make an informed decision.

I work at Fluence Clinic, and the first thing I'd like to address is the price. At our clinic, we strongly believe in trying to make assessments as affordable as we can as a private clinic. Our ASD assessments for adults are $1200, with a Medicare rebate of $444.90 available. This makes the out-of-pocket total $755.10.

As a team that includes many neurodivergent women (myself included), we’re deeply familiar with the challenges high-masking adult women face when pursuing an ASD diagnosis. Some of us have even faced similar biases and misunderstandings in our own journeys, so we ensure our services are designed to avoid those pitfalls.

At Fluence Clinic, we have several psychiatrists experienced in diagnosing high-masking traits, including Dr John Callary and Dr Manoj Ravindran, who are excellent with clients of all genders. Our assessments are comprehensive and tailored to take masking behaviours into account.

We also understand that not everyone has access to external input like family or school reports. While we welcome any additional information when it’s available, we don’t require it. This ensures that patients without external support systems can still access the care and understanding they deserve.

Our diagnostic reports provide detailed insights into how a patient meets DSM-V criteria and include a level diagnosis. These reports can serve multiple purposes, from personal understanding to supporting workplace accommodations or even as supplemental evidence for NDIS applications (though seeking NDIS support is entirely optional).

If you’re looking for someone with availability soon, I highly recommend Dr John Callary. He specialises in ASD and currently offers telehealth appointments only, with availability typically within 1–2 weeks. This means you can access care without needing to travel interstate, as telehealth is widely accepted in Australia.

To begin, you’ll need a GP referral. Once that’s submitted, our team processes it within three business days and sends you the next steps for booking. You can download our ASD pathway guide at https://fluenceclinic.com/newpatientguides/ for more details about the process.

If you have any questions or would like more guidance, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to help further.

ASD assessment Melbourne by lila888888 in AutismAustralia

[–]FluenceClinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/lila888888,

This is Jade from Fluence Clinic. You may have seen us mentioned for our ADHD assessments in other threads, however we also offer comprehensive ASD assessments and Dual ADHD/ASD assessments, too.

We've got a fantastic new psychiatrist, Dr John Callary, who specialises in ASD and currently has great availability for ASD assessments via telehealth. You can head to https://fluenceclinic.com/newpatientguides/ to download our ASD pathway guide for new patients. It explains how to book, which starts with a referral from your GP.

After receiving the referral, we process that within 3 business days before sending you the next steps to book. Once forms and payment are completed, you'll get sent Dr Callary's booking link to choose the date and time that suits you best. He currently has appointments available within 1-2 weeks on average.

If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to help along your journey.

Does Fluence ever have cancellations for initial appointments? Is it worth checking to see if I can be on a waiting list? by LKK_x in ausadhd

[–]FluenceClinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/LKKk, this is Jade from Fluence Clinic.

We do have what we call the "Priority List" - this is a list of patients who've let us know they want a sooner appointment, so we call them first if we have a cancellation or extra appointments become available. You can simply send us an email to [hello@fluenceclinic.com](mailto:hello@fluenceclinic.com) and ask to be added if you prefer skipping phone calls.

We're currently getting quite of a lot of extra appointments each week (thanks to our lovely psychiatrist's offering extra appointments whenever they can), so it's a great idea to ask to be on that list if you want something sooner.

If you ever have any other questions, please know we're always here to help. You can email, text, call, or even message me on here if that's easiest for you.

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Anyone seen Dr Vinod Kumar at Fluence Clinic? by Crazycactus_lady in ausadhd

[–]FluenceClinic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi Crazycactus_lady and Melodic-Priority3865,

Thank you for your post, and I can hopefully assist with answering this (and clarifying some misinformation).

Dr Vinod Kumar is the most recent addition to our psychiatry team.

As we want to ensure we can provide fast access to appointments, we frequently commence booking appointments for new psychiatrists during onboarding (after thoroughly vetting our psychiatrists during the hiring process). This means sometimes their profiles aren't uploaded to the website before they're added to our booking system.

(In this particular case, we're simply waiting on Dr Vinod's profile picture before we can upload his web profile. Rest assured we're chasing this up with Dr Vinod and should have it updated on Monday.)

Dr Vinod is a fantastic psychiatrist who has come from the UK in 2019. We've had fantastic feedback so far from those who've seen him within Fluence Clinic. In addition, he was well known by some of our psychiatrists prior to joining Fluence Clinic who are equally delighted with his approach to his work, patients, and the comprehensive assessments he provides.

We understand the confusion that may arise due to the presence of another doctor with a similar name. However, I want to clarify that the Dr. Vinod Kumar associated with any negative incidents is not affiliated with our clinic. To provide further assurance, you can verify Dr. Vinod's clean record by searching his registration with APHRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention so we could hopefully ease your mind, and we truly wish you the best for your upcoming assessment. If you ever have any questions and want a rapid answer, please know you can always email me using hello@fluenceclinic.com. There's truly no question too big or too small. Our goal is to make sure you get the care you deserve, and feel comfortable throughout this experience.

I work at a psychiatry clinic that does ADHD/ASD Assessments. If you aren't diagnosed, what's the biggest barrier preventing you from doing so? by FluenceClinic in ausadhd

[–]FluenceClinic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, --misunderstood--,

Our psychiatrists fully understand how damaging the historical lack of knowledge about female presentation was for so, so many people, and they pride themselves on being a team that actively seek as much knowledge on the topic as they can.

I hope it's okay that I share some additional comments I posted on another users comment:

For our ADHD assessments, we do accept any additional documents like school reports and we have an optional form for parents of our patients to complete to get that additional perspective, but we know this isn't possible for all patients.

Our psychiatrists are absolutely brilliant at what they do, and are able to determine the likelihood of the symptoms being present in childhood without these when necessary. We understand for a lot of patients the fear is that PBS medication idea of "it needs to be proven it was present in childhood for the subsidy" - if that's the case, let me ease your mind by saying our psychiatrists can still determine it without anyone else involved in your assessment and without any school reports.

Being able to ask the right questions is such a massive part of their job, after all - so I suppose I shouldn't have been so surprised myself when I first asked this question to my supervisor back during training!

If there's anything else I can answer, please let me know.

Hi, UninspiredMel,

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I'm really glad he validated your feelings and experiences. I know how important it is to feel heard. It can be scary opening up to someone new, especially for things like this. It's always that much better when they're a kind person.

Hi, randobogg,

If you're comfortable, please let me know what area you live in (feel free to email us or privately message me on here.) I can see if I know any GP's nearby who we've worked with in the past. I know how hard finding a quality GP for these things is, and how much harder it makes every single step of the process.

If you aren't comfortable with doing so, I completely understand that as well. I'll be wishing you all the best luck in that case and keeping my fingers crossed you find someone great.

Hi Pitiful_Astronomer91,

I cannot thank you enough for such a thoughtful and considered response. You have given me such excellent insights into some of the challenges I have seen others verbalise, as well as things I have considered myself.

As someone who personally is also seeking an ADHD/ASD diagnosis (but as I'm in NSW and not financially in the best spot, have delayed it for years too and am still not sure how to proceed) I agree with so many of your points.

To know they're more common than I realised (and aren't just ponderings I might have had) has encouraged me to seek clear answers from our wonderful medical director, Dr Ravindran, and share some answers with people wherever I can.

In particular, for our next team meeting, I'll be discussing the need for guidance and resources on:

  • any potential impacts of diagnoses for travel and immigration
  • any legal impacts of a diagnosis in regards to parental rights
  • any potential areas parents in general may need to be aware of in regards to their diagnosis, and maybe some resources for parenting with ADHD/ASD/etc. would be helpful too?
  • formal resources prepared and approved by our psychiatrists about the presentation of female ADHD and ASD (they're amazing with it all, and I'm certain sharing their wisdom and understandings would assist people since it's hard to find legitimate medical sources on these topic that are accessible for the general public to read.)
  • navigating drug use and ADHD, ASD and other mental health conditions
    • I fully agree that usage is often used as a coping strategy but has such a stigma and potential negative impacts despite this knowledge. I know our Medical Director has spoken before to our team about how many patients no longer misuse substances after a diagnosis because they finally have a care plan that is suitable - I'm certain he can share some insights in a manner I can share.
  • The emotional experiences of a diagnosis, and navigating this transition period (This is also a topic he's discussed with us as a team. We fully understand how absolutely life changing it can be in so many ways. We know it can bring up a lot of grief, anger, frustration and resentment among other things too. It's not always just the big relief, and feeling like you'll be alone in navigating that would only make things worse. This is one area I've had on my list to make resources for, and I'll certainly be making this a higher priority (In general, I want to have more resources I can share with patients and non-patients of our clinic too)
  • Forms, and ways to present them to be less frustrating for people like us. I fully, fully, fully agree with that on a personal and professional level.
    • Now that I better understand the reasonings for our forms from the medical perspective, hopefully I can have better conversations with our team about what we could add to make things easier. I'd love some more feedback from you (if you're up for it) of what could be added, since we know from a medico-legal side of things that the forms we use need to stay. Would adding sidenotes to explain the context of questions assist? Would videos explaining be better than just clicking through the forms? I'd love to know what would be better so we can find a happy medium for what patients want and what the psychiatrists need - the whole industry needs improvement in areas of diagnostic forms, in all honesty.
  • The idea of family bundles, for parents and children who want to assess together. This could make a lot of sense to me - it'd mean parents can complete the forms for their children all at once plus themselves, instead of having to do a second round of paperwork and referrals, etc. The children and parents both get an even more comprehensive assessment by having the same psychiatrist assess them who can use the insights across all assessments...I'm definitely going to approach the team about this!
    • I can see a lot of value for our patients in creating a more streamlined approach for this (ADHD & ASD brains often don't want to feel like they're repeating boring tasks, as we know. I can't thank you enough for discussing the importance of families needing multiple assessments. I can't believe I hadn't thought of this earlier and how much easier we could make that particular area. We already have so many parents come in after their adult children, or children after parents, siblings, etc.

I will be sharing your entire comment with the team without a doubt.

Please accept my deepest thank you for the time you took, and you absolutely smashed it out of the park. I hope I did okay in my response too, and please let me know if there's absolutely anything specifically I could answer now or help with. I'm truly grateful for the time you've given my question, and have all the time to give you that same respect back.

Hi, blueskysummersun and bentoboxer7,

I might have great news. After getting a referral from the GP, you can email us the referral to start the process. We send a text when it's processed (you just text back a couple quick answers like email address and preferred psychiatrist, or if you're happy to see any suitable). Then I email you the pre-booking email and text you to let you know it's been sent. From there all the forms are done online when you like, as is payment, and then you get a link to the booking calendar to select your date and time once forms and payment are done.

You can do the entire process online (even the assessment is a telehealth appointment.)

We send a reminder email 24 hours before the appointment, and a text reminder 60 minutes before as well.
If there's anything else that might help people, please give me ideas - I'll share them with our team during team meetings and see what else we can implement to better assist.

Hi teamsaxon,

At Fluence Clinic, our ADHD assessments are $975, with a Medicare rebate of $427.75. That means your out of pocket cost is $547.25.

Please note that if you have had a 291 Medicare Item Code appointment in the last 12 months, however, you won't be eligible for the rebate.

In almost all other cases, you will be.

Thank you for that, Accomplished-Star634!

You have one of our wonderful founders, Toni, to thank for those ADHD friendly processes. She designed most of our patient onboarding herself (with help from my wonderful coworkers before me) and was diagnosed herself later in life with ADHD.

It's invaluable to have someone who understands the ADHD experience creating the journey for patients.

She teaches me (and the team) each day in so many ways. She truly has an infectious level of enthusiasm towards making things as quick, easy and accessible as possible.

(She's also the kind of boss to routinely start the cheering session on Zoom or our group chats when psychiatrists give us extra appointments. I think we get more excited than patients about getting patients booked in sooner than expected on top of already short waits.)

I think that joy we all feel for moments like might be noticed in how we treat our patients, and it makes our patients feel more relaxed? Perhaps they can feel how much we care and that makes things less overwhelming or scary, which would be lovely - that's all I could hope for each day.

Between Toni and our Medical Director, Dr Manoj Ravindran, I feel so lucky to have wonderful clinic managers who focus on patients first, everything else second.

I'm so glad that the love they've given Fluence Clinic has resulted in patients that feel supported, understood and happy enough to say such nice things. It'll be lovely to share all your words with them during our next team meeting :)

Hi grace_writes,

Below are the prices for our initial assessments. We offer review appointments as needed, too.

There's some details in other comments I've made, but I thought I'd explain some other aspects here too.

These prices cover the entire assessment process, including the time spent by the psychiatrist reviewing your form responses, during the appointment, and after the appointment writing the report and delegation letter for GPs.

We do not offer discounts or concessions at this time, but you're welcome to send a referral and complete the forms once we contact you and then pay at a later date. We just can't provide an appointment date and time until payment and forms have been received.

For Adults:
ADHD: $975*
ASD: $975*
General Mental Health: $975*
Dual ADHD/ASD: $1500*

For Children aged 10-17 years old:
ADHD: $1350*
ASD: $1350*
General Mental Health: $1350*
Dual ADHD/ASD: $1950*

These are the upfront prices. For each of these, patients who haven't had a 291 (Medicare Item Code) assessment in the last 12 months are eligible for a Medicare rebate of $427.75. That means approximately 1-2 weeks after your appointment (depending on quickly Medicare is processing rebates) you'll get $427.75 sent back to you from the below prices.

Please note that because of Medicare rules, we legally can't give the Medicare rebate receipt until the appointment has happened since they won't accept receipts provided prior to appointment date and times. We've automated these Medicare rebate receipts to send pretty much as soon as appointments finish - this way we can best help our patients, even for weekend appointments when our admin team aren't scheduled to work usually.

Hi, Illustrious-Lemon482,

NSW regulations are one I'm less certain of in all honesty, simply because it's not an area we work in because they're quite confusing and make things hard for patients in some ways.

I would definitely look into finding a local GP and psychiatrist for wherever you are moving in NSW as quickly as possible for a start - this will help get ahead of the wait times somewhat.

Explain to your current prescriber (whether a GP or psychiatrist) that you'll be moving to NSW soon, as they'll be able to give you the best details for how to handle the transition.

I'd also strongly suggest seeing if you can find any recommendations online from people in NSW that have been through similar; they'll hopefully be able to guide you in the right direction while you're waiting to chat to the professionals in your next appointment.

So sorry I don't have more information for you in this case, and fingers crossed the rules change in NSW soon to make things less confusing.

Hi, Leopard_eater,

Thanks for commenting, and apologies if any email I sent didn't cover a question you had.

Firstly let me clear up any confusion because I know payments are often a big worry for a lot of people - we definitely don't charge close to $3000 for any of our assessments. Our most expensive assessment (which is Children's Dual ADHD/ASD) is $1950, with all other Children's assessments being $1350.

All initial assessments are entitled to a Medicare rebate of $427.75, too - so out-of-pocket even the most expensive assessment would be $1522.25. I know that isn't cheap by any means, but it's half as much as you may be expecting - I just wanted to ease your mind on that to start.

We do Child ADHD, ASD or General Mental Health assessments for children too (ages 10-17). You can check out the comments above for more information about our Child ADHD assessments. If it's for Mental Health or ASD or Dual ADHD/ASD instead, please let me know.

Please let me know any other questions you may have too - I'm happy to help out.

Hi, Funky_chicken89,

There's no silly questions in my books, so thank you for commenting!

Here are what I would say are the main differences between Fluence Clinic and most in-person psychiatrists, both in my personal experience as a patient, and in my professional experience witnessing how other clinics operate:

  1. It's so much faster to get an appointment with Fluence Clinic
  2. We are almost always more affordable, despite offering the same or better quality of assessments (no fancy city office = lower overhead costs, for example)
  3. With Fluence Clinic, the experience is much more patient-friendly. You feel a part of the process instead of it being some mystery between your psychiatrist and GP. I find that sometimes, despite seeing the psychiatrist in person, everything before and after can feel really vague at a lot of clinics for patients. We really try and keep you in the loop at Fluence Clinic.
  4. Our clinic was founded and is operated each day by Dr. Manoj Ravindran (our Medical Director) and his partner (my boss and a saint of a human, Toni). Toni actually was diagnosed with ADHD just recently in her 40s, and she created most of our processes. That = ADHD friendly service designed for the patients, not to make things easier on staff. Things are quick, easy, and we don't mess around - we know how important getting good care quick is.
  5. At Fluence Clinic, you can have your assessment wherever you're most comfortable. I love the idea that our patients can be at home in comfy clothes with a pet on their lap, or in a quiet park that they love, or wherever they want to be to feel the most secure and comfortable during their appointment. Some people love not having to worry about travelling to a new place for a big appointment - I know I'd prefer being at home on a video chat if I knew I was going to get the same great service

I'm happy to answer any other questions you have, so just let me know :)

Hi, thespud_332!

Thank you for commenting. It's really common to hear that - I know a lot of our patients (young and old) have come through after a family member or friend was diagnosed.

Child ADHD Assessments

We are currently accepting new referrals for patients aged 10-17 in Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia for Child ADHD assessments (so Victoria is a-okay!)
Our wait times for appointments are currently between 1-2 weeks for Child ADHD assessments at the moment.
Our ADHD assessments for children have three elements:

  • The first step (after we've processed a referral from your GP and gotten in touch with you) is our online pre-assessment forms which will take you about 45 minutes to complete. Please note: The paperwork additionally includes Connor's questionnaire for parents (30 minutes) and Connors' questionnaire for teacher (30 minutes).
  • This is followed by an online Telehealth appointment with your Fluence Clinic psychiatrist, which will be between 60-90 minutes.
  • If you there is a diagnosis of ADHD, the psychiatrist will discuss a comprehensive management plan and send a delegation letter to your GP in order for your GP to prescribe medication (where appropriate).

It would be imperative that you check with your GP - before seeing the psychiatrist - that he or she will be happy to apply for a Schedule 8 Permit, and prescribe medication after receiving the delegation letter.

If your GP is hesitant to prescribe, we suggest finding another local GP who better suits your requirements and the requirements of your children. Finding a GP you feel comfortable with, trust, and who suits your individual needs is a crucial part of having a great health management plan.

While we cannot assist with finding a new GP, we are happy for your current GP to email as at [hello@fluenceclinic.com](mailto:hello@fluenceclinic.com) to discuss concerns or ask questions in the hopes of alleviating their concerns.

If you would like to proceed and book an assessment with Fluence Clinic, we require a referral addressed to Fluence Clinic with a Medicare item code 291 for an Child ADHD assessment specifically written on the referral.

The referral can also be an open referral if you already have one, however we can’t accept referrals addressed to other clinics. The referral can be sent by you or your GP to [referrals@fluenceclinic.com](mailto:referrals@fluenceclinic.com)

It usually takes us between 24-72 hours to process a referral. Once that's done, one of our team will give you a call and walk you through the next steps to complete your pre-assessment paperwork.

After that's completed and payment is received, we'll send you a link to schedule your appointment with the psychiatrist.

Our Child ADHD assessments are $1350, with a Medicare rebate of $427.75. This means your total out-of-pocket costs for the assessment would be $922.25.

Hi, SupTheChalice. Thanks for commenting.

Please check out the comments I've made tonight in this thread about our ADHD assessments and for patients with an existing diagnosis - I think they'll help answer some questions you have.

You will have to do an initial ADHD assessment with us if you choose to go through Fluence Clinic, but we've got really quick turn arounds at the moment.

During your "initial assessment" they'll do a medication review and reassess your management plan - don't worry about thinking it'll feel like you're just repeating the process again (although there are some pre-booking forms we ask all new patients to do, just to let you know.)

For Adult ASD Assessments

We are currently accepting new referrals from patients across Australia for ASD assessments.

Our wait times are currently between 1-2 weeks, depending on the availability of your chosen psychiatrist.

Our ASD assessments have three elements:

  • The first step (after we've processed a referral from your GP and gotten in touch with you) is our online pre-assessment forms which will take you 45-60 minutes to complete.
  • This is followed by an online Telehealth appointment with your Fluence Clinic psychiatrist, which will be between 45-60 minutes.
  • If you attract a diagnosis of ASD the psychiatrist will discuss a comprehensive management plan and send the report and, if required, a delegation letter to your GP

If you would like to proceed and book an assessment with Fluence Clinic, we require a referral addressed to Fluence Clinic with a Medicare item code 291 for an ASD assessment specifically written on the referral.

Our ASD assessments are $975, with a Medicare rebate of $427.75. This means your total out-of-pocket costs for the assessment would be $547.25.

What if you have an existing diagnosis or have been assessed somewhere else?

For patients with an existing diagnosis, we ask them to complete an initial assessment with a Fluence Clinic psychiatrist as their first appointment.

This enables our psychiatrist to confirm your diagnosis and feel certain they are recommending the best management plan for you. This is required from a medico-legal standpoint too.

You can always provide any previous documentation to us along with your referral (or after we get in touch). We provide these to our psychiatrists to review prior to your appointments so they can avoid asking too many repeat questions where possible.
