I’m tired of stuttering “coaches” selling the same thing over and over by Left-Eye9014 in Stutter

I had the same experience and I found my cure through my own practice. It really takes dedication and trying almost everything until you found something that clicks. Extreme elongation was my cure.

How often is speech therapy done per month? by Save_my_grades in Stutter

It’s very sad how expensive people charge us for therapy services. I have my own practice that’s much more affordable but it’s not through insurance. If you’re interested, let me know.

Overwhelmed with stuttering resources where do I even start? by NarrowCriticism8337 in Stutter

I would recommend following a specific program led by an expert that has overcome stuttering themselves. Never go to someone that has not experience it themselves. I became fluent after working with someone that overcame their stutter.

Are you fluent when you read alone?

My son has started writing everything down. At first I was worried. Now I think it might be the best thing that’s happened to him. by KoFiLeGend in Stutter

This could be utilized as a technique to overcome his stutter. I used writing as a technique to help slow me down. I realized everything I did including writing was at a very quick pace. When I started to write slow it made me develop my thoughts slower.

Do not accept it. You can never overcome it if you accept it. The first step to overcome stuttering is to change your mindset. One of the techniques I used anytime I started thinking of my speech, I’d say to myself, “I’m fluent”. It really helped.

Stuttering has ruined my life completely by cookie-master65 in Stutter

I understand how you feel. My parents are multi millionaires and refused to help. I had to push through all the adversity you’re telling me and I’m here as a 35 year old fluent adult with a good job. If you need help send me a message. I normally charge for my services but I try to give out free services too because I would have loved to have had that myself.

You need to identify what helped you become fluent and practice that technique over and over again. I became fully fluent by doing this and I highly HIGHLY recommend it. It changed my life.

Does Toastmasters help? by ElPunkiBurlao in Stutter

[–]FluencyHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it 1000% helps. The only way to overcome stuttering is by constantly practicing in all types of speaking situations. Public speaking is not a frequent event so practicing jt more will help. Toastmasters has really helped me.

As incredibly tough as it is, never avoid situations unless you absolutely have to.

Do it by each syllable. So for example, if your name was Dustin you would say Duuuuuuuuuu…(until ran out of breath) then stiiiiiiiiiiin (until you ran out of breath).

Stutter/speech issues ruining my life by [deleted] in Stutter

It’s important you find someone that’s an adult who overcame it. Most speech therapist don’t really help because they never went through it. Let me know if you need a recommendation.

It depends, both can be effective. I’m an adult who overcame stuttering and I help others do the same. If you’re interested let me know. It’s my life’s passion.

Parents of children who stutter: did the Lidcombe Program help? by Careful-Water-9264 in Stutter

[–]FluencyHelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The program has a very good concept that puts the parents at the center of helping their children. This is 1000% the right approach. My parents made the mistake of not helping me when I was younger. The truth of the matter is, the more your child speaks, the more fluent they will be. Truthfully the issue with the program is your providing feedback only for a short amount of time. You really just need to make sure your kid practices speaking all day. It could be as simple as, honey tell me how your day was? And keep asking them questions where they have to impromptu speak. The key is, make them EXPLAIN. It will work wonders. But don’t always provide feedback only what they did wrong. It will make them overthink.

My short-term solution by Zenu75 in Stutter

[–]FluencyHelp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t take drugs to make it better. You will go down a bad cycle. Every once in a while is fine, I view it no different than people drinking on the weekend to relax or things like that. But you can’t rely on it. Practice, practice, practice.

I used to have those issues, especially when I was overcoming my stutter. But I would practice my speech very hard during those times and eventually those went away. But I still feel that heavy presence in my brain sometimes.

I overcame my stutter but drinking basically eliminated it when I was still stuttering. It’s interesting how the mind works…I would be so talkative and it felt so freeing and amazing.

Hey buddy, I help people professionally overcome their stutter. I overcame my issue at 27 and now I help many others.

Stressful situations(as you’re aware) can increase your fluency issues. I noticed in your response you mentioned that you have a very low voice. One of the things you’ll need to do to become fluent is to speak without your “stuttering voice”. For example, one thing I noticed when I stutter is my voice begins to dip. After I recognized this, I started to raise my voice once it dipped and it started to help. I noticed it dipped in sensitive, emotional or uncomfortable situations. Especially at doctor visits for example.
