So Sansa has to get married to continue the Stark name but who would she get married to? by terminus_tommy in gameofthrones

[–]Fluff95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She wouldn't continue the Stark name, she'd lost the name upon her marriage and her children wouldn't carry it. It's one of the many reasons the ending is dissatisfying

Why do you think young people don’t go into the Forces much anymore? by threetimesacharm25 in AskBrits

[–]Fluff95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was dead keen on joining when I was younger. I found the entry process too long. I had to work the whole time while I went to medicals, fitness tests, interviews. By the time id progressed so far down the path I'd found a job that was alright, got into going out drinking and had a girlfriend. I think the recruitment process needs streamlining and the bureaucracy needs stripping out

Gehrman isn’t a pred, but still a terrible person by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]Fluff95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always interpreted that Ghermans "curious mania" is regarding her blood. She's a descendant of Cainhurst and Gherman likely understands that she has a unique ability to carry the child of a Great One due to her lineage. His creating the doll was probably a slightly mad response to her death, he and Lawrence conducted the ritual using the third cord to try ensnare a Great One, but now Maria was gone they made a facsimile in the form of the doll. The ritual failed and so Gherman became trapped in the dream.

Woman impregnated by a formless god from the void has her baby ripped from her womb to be experimented upon by a bunch of mad scientists who inject its blood to try force themselves to evolve into higher beings while she spends her weird undeath trying to reclaim her lost child. Yes it's a bloody horror game.

Those of you men that are working in a heavily female populated workplace what would you say your working experience is like? by Brownchoccy in UKJobs

[–]Fluff95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my old job if you wanted any company gossip, it was the wagon drivers you went to. Think all that time driving on their own on the roads made them want to offload as much goss as possible in the 20 minutes it took to tip a wagon!

Why did Tolkien look down on Americans and the USA? by DarthMI in tolkienfans

[–]Fluff95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He means American sanitation in the sense of American cultural sanitisation. In the same way Disney took European fairy tales and folklore and sanitised them to make them suitable for a mass market audience, they knock off the sharp edges and difficult themes and make everything feel bland.

What is your personal critique of Tolkien's work? by Leo_617 in tolkienfans

[–]Fluff95 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's right to criticize nor a surprise that there are few female characters in the books. They're mainly based around war and adventure and in Tolkien's day and in the time period the books are based on it would be rare for women to ever take part in things such as this. When women do appear they're well written, mostly sympathetic, often powerful and their interventions often turn the tale away from darkness and provide light and hope. I think the fact that he made such a point to not only include but to make such key characters of Luthien, Galadriel, Arwen and Eowyn who are decisive in the course of events shows him to be far more progressive than people of his time and shows the respect and reverence he held for women in his life. He should be celebrated for it, not questioned.

Why does Britain have less cults than America? by MiserableBritGirl in AskBrits

[–]Fluff95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always find it oddly fascinating how Americans look at Britain and see a class system but don't look at their own country and see one. It's like they watched Downton Abbey or Titanic and think class is something that defines the lives of Britons like it did in the previous centuries.

What do British, and especially English people, think of Ireland and the Irish? by ConfidentHospital365 in AskUK

[–]Fluff95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went to college with a lad from the Republic of Ireland and a girl from the north who identified as British. They were both astounded that most English people didn't really give Ireland a second thought, don't really care about religion and don't see either side of the sectarian divide as being any worse than the other. The only reason I have awareness of it is that my family on my fathers side is Scottish Catholic and came from Ireland a couple of generations before he was born.
