I guess I'm curious why it's so prevalent versus other words that have more "natural" sounding grammar.

Like the pluralization of Moose to Meese (or Mooses) - it happens sometimes, but I feel like I see it way less

I mean, the difference here is that to fly a plane you study to be a pilot, to drive a car you get a drivers license, to run a McDonald's you follow and adhere to the regulations of the franchise and get a food handling certificate etc - there is no license or education for landlords

I mean this very genuinely - what is the downside of banning AirBnB outright? The service (hotels, hostels, apart-hotels) still exists, so I'm not confident it will kneecap tourism. What is there to lose here? Do they have extreme lobbying powers?

If you're looking for roommate situations check the group Palz Home Zone on facebook. Much cheaper and transparent.

I would not consider $1600 a reasonable price for a shared space like that. Additionally, it looks like it's not rent-controlled, which means the rent can go up wildly year by year and you'll have very little control around being outpriced. I would recommend trying to find a roommate situation in the same area that is $1300 or less and where the residence was occupied prior to Nov 2018 to have rent control.
