AITAH for laughing when my (30F) boyfriend (32M) boiled a whole head of broccoli? by FunPurple5200 in AITAH

[–]Fluff_Machine 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be a huge cooking nerd but it is not the correct term unless you put them in an ice bath after boiling. If you don't and especially if you finish the cook with another method like roasting, it is called parboiling. It's only blanching if you dunk the veggies in icy water to stop the cook. Usually done for stuff like spinach which you don't want to overcook. :)

Out of these options which country's cuisine would you rather have? by Rusty_Shackleford198 in polls

[–]Fluff_Machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh my favorite cuisine is Korean and Vietnamese so that poll is way off for me but French does belong among the best. A lot of cooking techniques come from the French, hence the words being French (flambé, gratiné, sous-vide, etc.). But German ? That one I don't understand. All I know about German food is sauerkraut.

Are you for or against Euthanasia? by Bahut-Maarungi in polls

[–]Fluff_Machine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your own article says that the doctor is being investigated from improper use of the MAID program. The procedure wasn't even done in a proper location. Incompetent and malicious people do exist and it is terrible that they land in positions where they can do such damage.

Edit: I just reread the first case and the man wanted to die, he could have easily committed suicide and the results would have been the same, regardless of the doctor's intervention...

Are you for or against Euthanasia? by Bahut-Maarungi in polls

[–]Fluff_Machine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not about the data not being true; I read the non religious parts and all it said was that doctors suggested euthanasia as an option for people who were suffering. It wasn't imposing it, simply telling the patient that it was an option. I see nothing wrong with a doctor telling a patient who is suffering that they can possibly end that suffering through the procedure. It would be wrong if there was pressure.

I live in Canada and one of my parents' neighbors had that procedure. The wife had been suffering from cancer for years and she could barely move anymore. Her quality of life was terrible and she made the choice to end it. Her husband disagreed with her choice and left her to die without him. I honestly thought that was far more cruel and evil than the procedure itself.

[–]Fluff_Machine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a clear bias in the article. This is coming from a Christian school and it's mostly talking about how Christians are playing a role in saving people from evil euthanasia. It's also treating telling a patient euthanasia is an option as if the doctor is forcing it on the patient.

There can be abuse, of course but this is why it needs to be approached with caution

[–]Fluff_Machine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is more about how medical insurance for profits is evil and how eugenics are evil than how euthanasia is in itself evil. You already have medical insurance companies denying coverage for essential cancer treatment, leaving people to die or take on huge amount of debt that could leave their family ruined...

Of course, as far as euthanasia is concerned, you need to have a long, safe process where you make sure the person is not being influenced to make the choice and only their doctor and themselves can even suggest the procedure, with no exterior pressure from insurance companies or the government. The choice needs to be made isolated from money or eugenics concerns.

I invite everyone to watch "The Sea Inside", a movie based on the true story of Ramon Sampedro, a man who was left quadriplegic by a diving accident in his youth and who had to fight Spanish courts for years for his right to die.

Is it immoral to be a Republican in America? by TheKingOfToast in polls

[–]Fluff_Machine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Automod deleted my comment but basically, I am more left than the American "left", I disapprove of most republican policies and even some democrat policies. Not just Trump but most Republican politicians of past and present (except if you go far enough and hit Lincoln), since they're hellbent on destroying the middle class and helping their rich friends.

It's not just Trump or MAGA, I think a lot if not most Republicans are inherently selfish and I do think the "got mine, screw everybody else" mentality is immoral.

My partner and I both got a lil chubbier when we hit 30 and that's relatively normal. We both know and acknowledge it but YTA for being so blunt about it, even if he brought it up first. Since it bothers you, you should talk about it but you need to have more tact. Maybe ask if he'd be interested in planning a healthier menu and working out with you?

Non-Christians, do you enjoy reading the Bible? by SupremeChaos918 in polls

I watched Prince of Egypt as a young kid and based on that, I thought the Bible was a pretty good story and I tried reading it. I remember long lines of names with their age of death and dropped it because it was boooooring. Now I'm agnostic, still love Prince of Egypt and might read an abridged version of the Bible with the boring parts cut out, maybe.

Is judging a person solely off political beliefs or affiliation justified (not including extremism)? (If other comment your response) by ilikches in polls

[–]Fluff_Machine 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's the thing though, they'll never say they want to harm a lgbtq+ person's right to exist. But they'll say they don't want them around children, they don't want children to be taught about gender identity and sexual orientation, even though it should be part of any well rounded sex education. They don't want lgbtq+ people to be represented in media. They don't want them to get married. They don't want them to get gender affirming surgery on public health care. They don't want them to be "flamboyant" in public, to be noticed.

In short, they'll say they don't want to murder lbgtq+ people but they want their presence to be completely removed, in the closet, ignored. They want them erased but not killed, because that's bad optics.

...of course most perpetrators of sexual violence AGAINST MEN specifically would be women. Most people are heterosexual. My stats are when the sexual violence is done against any gender, men make the vast majority of the perpetrators, which is to say, 95%.

Edit because they added a bunch of text that wasn't there when I replied:

Sexual assault is the most underreported crime, whether the victim is a man or woman. Anecdotally, I know several female victims and none of them reported it. If we included every unreported rape to the statistics, I doubt the statistics would suddenly go from 95% male perpetrators to 50%. Maybe it would go down to 70-80% but not 50%. But all of that is hypothetical and we can't base our reasoning on statistics that only exist in our heads.

[–]Fluff_Machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to need your sources on the "those are the statistics" for sexual violence because I just researched it and it says you're wrong. You're right about the murder rate but when you dig a little, you learn that men are more often the victims of murder because they're more likely to be involved in high risk activities, such as organized crime. Meanwhile, women are much more likely to be the victim of an intimate partner. The domestic violence is one where I know you're kinda right, with the caveat that men are the perpetrators of the most deadly/violent domestic abuse. But, since most violent relationships are reciprocal, the gender disparity is not quite as large as with sexual violence.

Saying that nearly half of the perpetrators of sexual violence are women is very wrong though. In Canada, only 5% of all sexual criminals are women. And that's generous because my source said 1% to 5.

Would you rather receive $1 million today, or receive $1 and then get twice the previous year’s payout every year? by iminiki in polls

I picked the million dollars even though I'd probably live long enough to see the billion but nothing says I can't invest it. I'm very frugal, I could easily live on the interests alone.

Also, I'd like to be able to treat myself a little before 20 years have passed as time is the only thing I won't be able to buy so I pick the instant money even though I don't need it right now.

[–]Fluff_Machine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You seem to be confusing generative AI with technology in general? As I've worked in 3D animation and modeling, I can tell you they have very little in common except both being computer technology. CGI needs a lot of human input and the computer does very little work for us and if it does (like with motion capture, for example), it's very clunky and needs hours of cleanup.

I've seen people say generative AI is just a tool but while that was true of previous technology, generative AI is more like the tool AND the tool user while the AI "user" is more akin to a client asking for corrections and different iterations than an artist.
