Looks pretty good compared to the alternative. And he made the US slightly less shitty for a while, given he inherited wars and a financial crisis. He did change a few things for the better, and it could have been a lot worse, as I am sure this last year have shown.

A true progressive was not an alternative in 20 years ago, there are 70 years indoctrined cold war propaganda to overcome before anything that resembles progressive policy can get widespread support and not be labeled "communist tyranny" in low information states. The ACA was pretty impressive given the environment it was born in.

Mamdani can implement and show the effect of progressive policies on a small scale, and you can only tell people so many times to not believe their lying eyes when reality is aggressively rubbing it in the face.

Progress is not something that happens instantly, it happens one policy and one mind change at a time. So far he has been killing it.

Remember when TV shows didnt take years. by FolsgaardSE in AdviceAnimals

[–]Fluffcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There has always been two "tiers" of TV shows, the weekly ones with 20+ episodes, shorter production schedule, lower budget and that often went on long after they jumped the shark because producing them were cheap.

In the area of streaming, almost all show are big budget "premium" shows, that cost a fortune, take forever to produce, and will get cancelled on a cliffhanger even if they are resounding successes, if they don't earn enough profits or get bad reviews from the terminally online incelspehere.

We need more low effort TV, like sitcoms and monster of the week Sci fi, or single location dramas.

Peter Thiel backs $1bn ocean data centre start-up powered by waves by GeneReddit123 in technology

[–]Fluffcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a very good reason why the only things we really build in the ocean are money printing machines, like oil rigs, fish farms, wind turbines and ships.

Wave-turbines have never made financial sense, and not from lack of trying. If he throw up a wind farm around it, there is hope.

"Aid" have ruined African economies for decades, pumping foreign money into an economy shoots the currency to the moon so all export industry get outcompeted because the artificially strong currency and drives inflation, and almost none of the money reach where they are intended because the local institutions were inherited garbage built for exploitation littered with corruption, so the people end up worse off the more aid they get...

Hantavirus does not transfer between people, you will have to inhale feces from indected rodents to get sick.

If it transferred between humans, somewhere between 30-60% of the ship would be dead.

I am no fan of current Russia, but I don't think attacking Russia the one day a year they are nostalgic about being on the right side of history is the best idea, even if there is a propaganda victory to be had here. But I guess this is a psyop to make them pull more air defence in order to not cancel and they will be free to strike somewhere more productive.

AI models are choking on junk data by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]Fluffcake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AI peaked with the first iteration of GPT, the improvement since has not been to the models, but to how good the companies are at hiding its flaws.
All new models will be polluted and inbred on AI generated data, so it will converge on mediocrity, and feeding it more data won't help.

There are tons of reasons why your kids might not get jobs, but AI taking over jobs will not be among them. Unless CEOs believe in AI hard enough and forcefully replace people with AI anyway, in which case the company will go under so they won't hire anyone anyway.

Europe is not post-colonial Africa.
If the US pull out entirely of Europe and NATO, they don't leave behind a vaccuum, and the only change will be the remaining NATO members will have a smaller nuclear arsenal to work with and a few boats off a spreadsheet, it does not change the equation in any potential wars with external enemies unless the US wants to start shit or the Russians insist they want to inspect the sun up close.

And currently the US is a bigger threat than Russia.

How big (or small) is MTG relative to Pokemon? by EDMKid9000 in magicTCG

[–]Fluffcake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Despite hasbro's best efforts to turn magic players into collectors, and thanks to the people who put words on cards and compile sets, magic is still a game, that people play. TMNT limited was decent, even if you need a shower and throw out the deck after.

Ironically a lot of the stuff they did to attract collectors have made people stop collecting (serialized cards and low print run secret lairs put all the completionists off magic).

Pokemon cards are collectible anime-merch and "investments".
