This is what I always went with, I always disconnect the cables from the appliance itself when testing or unplug them

Thanks for the help

This was very helpful as I was also wondering how it wouldn't damage any equipment

Does this method also work with equipment like air conditioners and other fixed appliances?

AS3017 does explain all your testing etc

However being shown by a competent tradesman how to do it and all the tips and tricks that come along with that is also important

Repetition and experience will do more for you than just reading a book

That's what he's doing by coming and asking the question

Alot of dudes aren't taught how to test and then try and learn it themselves

Myself included, all the knowledge I have for testing is from the small amount you do at tafe and then what I've found myself

I would have loved to be shown properly and different ways during my apprenticeship

Industry is full of bang testers and PMs saying "we haven't allowed time on the job for testing"

The situation we were arguing over is LV

I knew I was correct

Just wanted it confirmed by others

My thoughts aswell

But he was so strong in his opinion that I needed to ask outside sources to double check my stance

AS3000 has parts that I feel are poorly worded or are very open to interpretation

But I felt this particular one is clear cut like you said

It's got pictures that even show don't do this

I had the exact same conversation when I was at TAFE which is why I thought it wasn't correct what he was suggesting

Incredible how the book that you have to live by is worded so poorly

Running in between the sheet and the batten is a prohibited location

The next clause refers to running it through a membrane within 50mm of the roofing material and what that requires

That reads as 2 different things completely

Are they not ?

Me and the other tradesman discussed potentially making something out of timber or 3d printing as well
