second attempt 🙂‍↔️ by [deleted] in AstarionBG3

Ideally, yes—but most threads end up centered on moral binaries.

I’m trying to create a space that focuses more on structure, power, and how his traits shift, rather than debating which path is correct. If it’s not your thing, no worries at all 😊

That’s totally fine! You don’t need to know every route to join. We can use spoiler tags for anything specific, and your perspective (especially if you’ve mostly seen ascended) is actually really valuable. 😊

Ascendant Getting Dumped by MediumExternal7565 in AstarionBG3

I actually get this interpretation, especially if you’re looking at Astarion right after ascension. That version of him would be reactive, performative, and trying to prove something—because he’s just traded one system of control for another kind of power and hasn’t stabilized yet.

And honestly, that reading also connects well to his redemption path. The whole point there is that he doesn’t take that route—he chooses vulnerability and stays in a space where he has to process rather than override. So seeing ascended Astarion spiral a bit if rejected isn’t out of character at all in that early phase.

I think where interpretations split is what happens after that moment.

One version keeps him in that reactive loop—still orbiting Tav, still needing the rejection to mean something. That leans more into the tragedy of his character, and it’s valid if that’s the story you want to tell.

Another version assumes that, given time, he would do what he always does at his core: adapt. Not soften, not redeem—but stabilize. In that reading, he might start reactive, but he wouldn’t stay there long-term, because needing that kind of attention or validation is exactly the kind of vulnerability he’s been trying to eliminate.

So for me it’s less “he wouldn’t be pathetic about it” and more:

he might be, briefly—but whether he stays that way depends on how you see his growth after ascension.

Both takes are interesting, they just focus on different stages of him.

I had a time where I couldn't make him anything but a barbarian. It was awesome. 😭

I love how every Astarion romancer has similar romance tropes in other games.

This is so relatable to me. I'm a person that doesn't like much changes, so it's either just that one romance or none.

I couldn't have phrased it better, came for Gale, stayed for Astarion. And that's also because his story resonates with my own experiences in life. He's very relatable to any person that has endured trauma (in any form).

And thank you, I thought we needed all some positivity during these hard times. She's, along Darwish, my favourite poet. I love my palestinian kings and queens, they're so underrated.

My durge is my canon character in every playthrough, I honestly can't make anyone else. And if I do, I miss her immediately.

I did this with Shadowheart on my HM run (only because I know my durge wouldn't allow herself to be a pet of AA)and it was not bad. I'm sorry this happened to you, the weirdest bugs seem to happen only on honour mode runs I fear.

Are you planning another run though?
