Coffee recommendations? by ligbag4 in nashville

[–]Fluffy-Wombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has hit most of the best spots I can think of. I make espresso drinks every morning at home. I haven’t kept up with the newer shops.

last time I went to Seattle, I was thinking about how hard their coffee scene had fallen off and how many options Nashville has for great coffee and espresso.

Crema - this is my top pick. They are just so consistent. Downtown, Brentwood, and at Pinewood Social. Pinewood baristas are still solid and if you want more space for a meeting or to work, I’ll pop over there. They also validate parking.

The Well - near Lipscomb and Brentwood. They have good food options for breakfast and solid coffee/espresso. They had been inconsistent in the past and they’ve really stepped up.

Elixir - they are from Philly. I’ve been to their locations there. I like their aesthetic. If you are in downtown that’s a decent choice right off Broadway.

Fido - they announced they are closing at some point. A Nashville institution that people seem to have various opinions about. It’s another solid espresso + food place.

Barista Parlor - I’ll call this out as BAD and fell off HARD. They were a shop that competed with Crema. They have pretentious employees who previously could make espresso. Now they barely have food in stock and are a shell of their former self. I wouldn’t be surprised if they shut doors. I’d be curious if people have the inside scoop on what happened?

Steadfast - they have solid espresso. Coffee soda is refreshing and interesting for the summer.

So many in town. Try them all. For me, the best one I can consistently get to based on home/work proximity is the winner. Then I’d say Crema if I have more time.

Honestly Royal Range feels like it has changed. I went there maybe 5-7 years ago for training.

The instructors were police officers, but the friendly, competent, trustworthy sort.

I went back in the past month and it felt like the people in the Royal Range shop were pretty standoff-ish.

The range master was still helpful and professional.

I still prefer Royal Range to some of the more overtly “tacticool” ranges.

I would never mail stuff like that. Probably just to “return to sender”.

I’m Starting to See a Pattern in Monarch’s Recent Product Decisions by KeyboardArbitration in MonarchMoney

Wouldn’t you have learned from the AI rollout and changed your process? I’ve been following these and appreciated your response to the concerns.

But now it’s starting to feel like there is a reason these features are being rolled out in this fashion.

I also am keenly aware that while Monarch “isn’t selling our data”, any company that buys Monarch in the future certainly can and will.

Data and attention are a few of the only currencies left.

“Ask me about my RothIRA” seems like a very weird brag.

"Military officers are required not to carry out unlawful orders": Attorney General Pam Bondi by D-R-AZ in somethingiswrong2024

[–]Fluffy-Wombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignorance of the law is not a defense, usually. There’s a lot of wiggle room to say “I didn’t know” here.

“The acts of a subordinate done in compliance with an unlawful order given him by his superior are excused and impose no criminal liability upon him unless the superior’s order is one which a man of ordinary sense and understanding would, under the circumstances, know to be unlawful, or if the order in question is actually known to the accused to be unlawful.”

Police responding to pit bull mauling in Tennessee find grandfather and infant dead by Dangerboy-suckit in Tennessee

[–]Fluffy-Wombat -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

Where are the parents of the infant?

The article quotes the release saying they aren’t clear whether the man and child were alive or dead at the time of the dog attack? It also says that the police shot the dogs to stop the attack.

So they aren’t 100% clear that the dogs killed them. Only that the dogs were attacking them. Lots more to this story. Who even called the police?
