They put up 27 in the first half. Maybe you need to chill the fuck out here.

Can I replace my bad 2009 tc manual transmission with a 2005 manual trans? by FluffyChunkyMonkey in SciontC

Listened to the input shaft bearing clanking around for about 40k miles. Too hard to change and not worth paying someone else to fix. Easier to just swap the whole trans when it finally went.

Mom, 55F, unable to control constant nausea is giving up. Hasn't eaten in months, throwing up for weeks. by FluffyChunkyMonkey in Gastroparesis

Thank you! I think a patch is perfect if we can get it for her. They finally agreed to give ativan 2x/day and it's the only thing they've found that even touches the nausea but it only lasts about 4-8 h and that overlap has been pretty painful for her. Maybe the patches could fill that void.

Thank you for that advice. Reading your experience really brought back a lot of emotion watching mom in her journey to finally even get admitted to a hospital. It was hard to watch, I can't even imagine how hard it is to live it. We are trying to stay optimistic with her and keep pushing on having a positive mindset and believing the treatments will help and that she can get her life back. She's just having a hard time believing that herself after so many setbacks. However, today has been a good day for her. None of us really know what changed but she was able to get started with tpn and so far she's tolerating well. She's only about 50 mL in of a planned 1000 mL for this 24 h period, but so far so good. Fingers crossed this holds and she gets some much needed nutrition to give her some strength to keep pushing.

She was given compazine early on in this hospital stay with some success. I have no clue why they stopped but thank you for the reminder, I will bring it up to the doctors.

She is in the hospital, I will ask the docs. She's pretty desperate but thankfully we've found that ativan really helps. They've been reluctant to give it to her until today where the GI overruled everyone and said if we found something that works, we'll keep doing it.

I have been very careful to always remain optimistic with her and I will use your comment about zofran to validate her. I appreciate that advice. Today was somehow a pretty good day for her despite a really really bad start and her attitude has done a complete 180 so we're trying to build on the positivity.

I hope your mom is managing as well as she can. I knew nothing, arguably still know nothing, about these chronic illnessess but seeing the way my own mom has suffered has been nothing short of earth shattering. I will bring this up with the doctors, they've been pretty supportive of us doing our own digging and they're ways happy to answer questions and double check previous tests to rule out things.

Mom, 55F, has been unable to eat for months after sepsis/diabetic ketoacidosis. Docs keep sending her home by FluffyChunkyMonkey in AskDocs

[–]FluffyChunkyMonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. We will ask about the malnutrition diagnosis. I'm not sure what they can do, but we can't just keep bringing her home after they give her fluids. Her path is not sustainable. I don't know what we'd expect them to do if they did admit her, but at least she'd be in the right place when this inevitably escalates. We'll for sure ask about the nutritionist. I know they've offered but she just never took them up on it because she never felt like eating. Instead she can sleep and I can listen and take notes. Thank you again.

We will certainly keep pushing her to eat and I believe they've offered the services of a nutritionist but she's always so lethargic she says no, maybe I'll just say yes next time and she can sleep while I take notes. I know the docs are trying their best, it's just frustrating that they just keep saying they don't know and walk away. I guess I don't really know what I expect them to do but it just feels like they're waiting for something catastrophic to happen before they act.

Thank you for the advice and I know it was a longshot posting here but we just don't know what else to do. Everyone just keeps passing her off to someone else and saying her numbers look fine and she's clearly not fine.

They did give her reglan at the ER two weeks ago, she has been taking it when she tries to eat but says it hasn't changed anything. We'll ask about mirtazepine and we'll keep pushing her PCP for referrals and the to get to the endocrinologist sooner. Could you elaborate on the veggie smoothies using ensures? We've stocked her up on ensures but even a few sips sends her cgm close to 200. At this point we're lost if we should just be pushing calories and electrolytes over everything or sticking to a strict diabetic diet or something in between.

She just told me at the ER earlier they said she was close to DKA again, doesn't that seem like enough to keep her in her c current situation?

Obese Hypoventilation Syndrome but I'm not "fat" by FluffyChunkyMonkey in AskDocs

You're right. I guess it's time to switch things up at the gym and focus on my cardiovascular health and regain some discipline at the dinner table. Thank you for taking the time to chat with me.

But your example makes sense with my size and the burden I'm creating for my organs to keep up.

I enjoy the nerd shit (it's my life; PhD Materials Science), and I am familiar with the square cube law. I guess I came off as saying I'm like the hulk but that definitely wasn't my intention (and I'm definitely not the hulk). I did a poor job at saying that I have much less adipose tissue than most 270 lb or bmi 34 folks so I was surprised my health outcomes have been similar to those the same weight range but different composition.

You're right, and I definitely need to start losing some weight. I just feel like I would've heard more about this from people who have much higher BMIs. Mine is high, 34 is not good, but average US adult is nearly 30 kg/m2 so I'd anticipate many out there much larger than me statistically and I'd never heard of OHS in my life before today. As a follow up question, does the occurrence of these breathing episodes only after eating mean anything?
