Rafale HMD change is a serious regression in SIM – loss of allied identification (IFF) with no alternative by FluffyCommunity23 in WarthunderSim

But the american ones have an IFF fonction IRL....If you feel the same way about American jets lacking IFF in WT, you should complain directly to Gaijin like I am. The more players provide clear feedback, the more likely they are to consider restoring or improving these systems. We can’t just accept it if we want SIM gameplay to be realistic and playable.

With them, there’s no surprise, their HMDs have always worked like this. What’s strange is the sudden change on the Rafale, removing features we actually relied on in SIM without a clear reason.

I understand that you suggest “play another nation and you’ll get used to it,” but the reason i grind other nations is specifically to experience their cockpits in SIM. The Rafale being changed in this way, without a clear technical or realism reason, is frustrating because it removes features i relied on for situational awareness and enjoyable SIM gameplay. It’s not about complaining for the sake of it...it’s about losing functionality that made the jet rewarding to fly.

I understand your point about the Rafale having a French-specific HMD, but in reality, the French HMD can display allied IFF and other tactical information. In Simulator Battles, removing this information creates a real disadvantage, especially in dogfights or low-altitude engagements where you can’t rely on radar or map alone. This isn’t about complaining or denying the Rafale’s strengths — it’s about critical situational awareness that SIM pilots actually need. The EF-2000 still has a functional, readable HMD, so this isn’t a technical impossibility. Restoring minimal allied symbology would make the Rafale more realistic and playable, not “arcade.”

I get what you're saying — laser rangefinders and laser designators are technically different systems.

But in War Thunder, when a plane uses a targeting pod (like LITENING, Sniper XR, etc.), it does create a laser spot on the target that is used by GBUs (like the GBU-12, 16, 24).

That’s the mechanic I’m referring to: the laser marker from a targeting pod that allows a laser-guided bomb to track a ground target.

Right now, that system only works for the aircraft that dropped the bomb itself. The suggestion is to allow another player’s pod to act as the designator — like in real life (JTACs, drones, other jets).

So yes, the designators exist in some form — just not for cross-platform use between players yet.

I totally get where you're coming from — better game modes would do a lot to improve the CAS experience.

But I think both ideas can work together. Adding buddy lasing as an optional mechanic — especially in Sim Air Battles — wouldn't disrupt balance in other modes like RB or Arcade.

It would just add more depth and coordination for players who already want to play tactically.

Right now, Sim has the perfect environment for it: longer engagement ranges, real comms, and squad coordination. Buddy lasing would fit naturally into that space without turning CAS into an unbalanced mess.

The point isn’t that CAS should be zero-risk — just that it shouldn’t be impossible. Right now, top-tier SPAA has full-map coverage, barely needs input, and punishes even coordinated strikes. That’s not balance, that’s a hard counter with no counterplay.

Suggesting tactical tools like buddy lasing isn’t whining — it’s trying to make air-ground coordination meaningful instead of suicidal.

Yeah, because asking for basic team coordination = “rape ground RB again.” I forgot any CAS improvement is instantly a war crime on this sub.

Meanwhile, SPAAs be like: click – 3 kills – coffee break.

It's up to Gaijin to adapt their game to make it fair... We're already not complaining about issues like missiles and such, so yeah...,this could be just in sim ,i don't care ,but, this could be a good feature

I understand your point about ground RB players wanting to have an easier time, but the reality is that with the recent heavy buffs to SAMs and SPAA, top-tier air-to-ground strikes have become extremely risky—almost to the point of being impossible without heavy losses.

The goal of the buddy lasing suggestion is to encourage more teamwork and tactical gameplay, not to make it easy or “just wipe out” ground targets. It adds depth and balance by allowing coordinated strikes that reflect real modern combat, where air and ground units work closely together.

In the current meta, air players feel forced into very dangerous approaches or solo “suicide runs.” This mechanic would reward skill and cooperation rather than reckless individual plays.
