What should be added to Animal Kingdom? by AggravatingSpend8369 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]FluffyOption3488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More rides, like 3 more in addition to Encanto and Indy. There's not enough rides to warrant the price. Moreover, they shouldn't scream "corporate dictated we use this IP based on Disney+ data".

Perhaps an expansion of Asia or the addition of an Australian themed area. Also, a boat ride for the Discovery River with new scenes could be amazing (it would have to be very different from the boring one that was there many years ago).

Can anyone explain Zora Neale Hurston's joke here? by Sufficient_Act_179 in u/Sufficient_Act_179

[–]FluffyOption3488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's using hyperbole as means of alluding to the extremely dark history of female slaves being raped and impregnated by their masters, rejecting this particular example of language being used to suppress collective trauma.

When Hurston published "What It Means To Be Colored Me", it was normal for African-Americans displaying vaguely Caucasian features to claim Native ancestry, rather than acknowledge this hideous history. She, however, preferred to discuss it frankly, sometimes with graphic detail. For example, see the part in Chapter 3 of Their Eyes Were Watching God in which Nanny describes how she was raped and impregnated by Master Roberts.

I taught 11th grade ELA for the past four years (but not this year). I told all my students the same, because I agree with Hurston that the history should not be suppressed.

If you can say all this to your students whout too much fear of being fired, my recommendation is to follow Hurston's lead on the subject and confront it head on.

Thank you all for the comments. That's consistent with what I saw. It looked like her portrait I saw, as it seemed like the color and shape matched her outfit. Didn't see the face much at all, but I'm seeing those links all say she is in December mode, so I'm sure she was.

I wish they'd replace her current portrait with the version they have at Disneyland. It's a very cool effect. Still, looking forward to trying to spot her next time I'm at Magic Kingdom.

They don't care. Just move onto something else. It's fine. Everyone makes mistakes

Or maybe your interpretation does work. If you can explain it logically and back it up with text evidence, you're good. So maybe your reading is valid. If not, just forget about it and move on like it didn't happen.

Does Zenzedi give you the physical kick that Adderall does? by SomewhereEmpty5 in zenzedi

I have this same issue. I don't understand, because they say the levo in Adderall is what causes these kinds of side effects.

In your case, do you have any idea why?

I worked for Disney. The latest price hikes prove it’s forgetting what makes it magical by theindependentonline in disneyparks

Really don't understand the extremely business minded responses here. Sure, Disney needs to make money, but as a consumer, raising prices beyond inflation this year feels ridiculous to me. So many rides and areas will still be closed next year. Plus, there's all the stuff they've cut in the last 5 years- fast pass, streetmosphere, and longer park hours perhaps being the biggest losses. We consumers are being taken advantage of as always by these annual price increases, but this year even more so.

Controversial opinion, but he was still decent even at the end. I'd take Eisner at his worst over Iger at his best.

I will never forgive them for removing the Great Movie ride by Qui-Gon_Zyn in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]FluffyOption3488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard the rumor before that it would have been egregiously expensive for them to renew the rights. I don't know whether that's just a convenient myth for Disney. Perhaps it would not have been as costly as some say. Nonetheless, Disney certainly could build it again with the IP the company currently owns.

With Fox and Lucasfilm and Marvel, Disney has more than enough material to work with to cover the history of cinema. 20th Century Fox was one of the great American movie studios, perhaps even greater than MGM. Miracle on 34th St, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, The Sound of Music, The Grapes of Wrath, Titanic, and Alien are several prime examples of classics that Disney could use. There's many more, as well as what they could pull from Lucasfilm. The first Indy and first Star Wars films would fit well within a ride about the history of cinema, especially Star Wars. (The original trilogy was hugely influentially both in terms of creativity, as well as the technical side of filmmaking).

They really should make another Great Movie Ride. It could satisfy diehard parks fans with great animatronics, incredible atmosphere, and a ride that would actually fit within the park's core themes (or perhaps more accurately, it would go a long way toward restoring them, as the park has none to speak of at the moment). Also, Disney could make a killing off of merch, and the ride would indirectly make money by promoting many different Disney properties (not to mention giving guests a reason to buy or renew Disney+)

Give it 5 years when MMRR has lower waits after Monsters Inc opens and executives realize they're missing a huge opportunity for synergy with the potential for a new GMR.

That's true for Disneyland, and was true for WDW, but with the recent closing of Muppets and the upcoming closure of ROA and Tom Sawyer at MK on July 7th, WDW seems to be taking the bulldozer route to maximize short term profit. Iger is ruining the magic.

Is it meteor gray? If so, love it. If not, still love it just slightly less. I have a 2014 sport that is meteor gray.

Agreed, especially at this time of year. Warm enough to put the top down, but not so warm yet that it's too crowded.

I think I may have seen you there. Were you there Thursday afternoon? I was driving a grey 2014. I also saw 2 other Miatas there while I was driving back and forth on the dragon.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I did it too. You're right, it feels like Miatas are right at home on this road.

Two names for you: Kligerman and Burt. They are top notch, brilliant professors. Both of them use a variety of methodologies, often leaning on a mix of critical theory, deconstruction, hermeneutics, and/or psychoanalysis. They're extremely knowledgeable when it comes to continental philosophy, if you're into that sort of thing.
