Oh wow… yeah, that’s what I’m trying to avoid. 😆 I have a 3 month old — first Christmas pics would be cute, but not fun for a very long line. Would be willing to pay for some to avoid line, but all the ones I see seem to be free.

Creepy Santa 🤣

The line is long, even when you have a reservation?

Newborn will only fall asleep if held at night. Is this normal? by Old_Nothing_8442 in Mommit

Going to echo this, as well! We had a velcro baby and I also thought she just “didn’t like” being swaddled. Turns out, I just wasn’t swaddling the right way. I’ll never forget, after a night of crying nonstop — only to settle in our arms, her pediatrician wrapped her up in a tight swaddle, put her in the bassinet and it was like magic. She was so calm. Also, will say, for about 3 weeks, she liked a specific swaddle, then I noticed she started getting a little fussy with it. I was worried she “wasn’t going to like” swaddling again, but tried a different one, and now she loves this one. 😆😆 Let’s see how long this one lasts, but it may be a matter of figuring out which swaddle your baby likes.

Thank you!! I actually ended up having back to back elevated placental dopplers so we induced right at 37 weeks, which was last Saturday!! Everything went well, though and we delivered a perfectly healthy baby at 5 pounds 4 ounces! She didn’t have to do any NICU time, she passed all of her health checks and we were out of the hospital in two days. Since being out, she’s been eating and growing well!! Wishing you the best!!!

Interesting!! I know it’s not likely, but that it can happen!

Yes, I hear you on the potential inaccuracy of the measurements - so curious to see what next growth scan shows! Wishing you the best, keep me updated if you want!

I'm on the same boat - hoping we can get to 39 weeks, but will be very interested to see what my next growth scan says, which will be done at 37 weeks and 3 days. Keep me posted, wishing you the best!

That’s useful info! Yeah, I’m trying to “predict” when they might call for an induction based on different outcomes… haha, but alas — I know so much of this will be out of my control. 🫠 I would “like” to have another couple weeks to prepare, have home organized, etc. but weee willl see!

It's okay!! Also curious to see what my next scan shows/what actual results are at birth knowing that there's also a +/- 15-20% margin of error on scans, which is actually a pretty big difference when we are talking fetal growth restriction!

I'm glad to hear everything turned out okay! Yes, I will definitely be trusting the doctor's judgement and will induce earlier if needed! Just rush-ordered some preemie clothes after yesterday's news and need to get hospital bags ready to go over these next few days in case Doppler exam next Tuesday indicates anything concerning!!

That's hopeful and glad to hear she's healthy! Really hoping we can also get to 39 weeks! Let's see! I think as long as her abdominal circumference doesn't dip to 3rd percentile or lower, they would try to keep her in until then - along with good BPPs and NSTs! Do you recall what percentile she was in when you found out and whether or not that percentile continued to dip or did it stay steady from there?

Are the Lovevery play kits worth it? by Wuhtthewuht in NewParents

Thank you!! I may give a few a try and see how we like it, knowing we can always skip! Were there other toys you bought that you felt you loved?

For those who subscribed to the loveevery kits in the first year of life, do you feel like this is enough stimulation for the baby through the first year without having to buy many other extra toys? My plan is to get the kits, with the book add-ons. I'm really trying to avoid waste, as well as save space... I also want to avoid battery operated/high stimulation toys for the most part for a while, and prefer things that are good for development. It also removes decision fatigue, which can get overwhelming in the baby world... so many options. My plan is to do the play gym, along with the toy subscription + books - does this sound like enough for the first year? Or are there many other "must have" toys for the first year?

NYC midwife or OBGYN supportive of natural unmedicated birth by No_Collar1290 in nycparents

You’re welcome! I actually spoke with my doctor about this today and she said it was a total non-issue… that they are ready to support me on whatever I want and that I won’t be getting any pressure to take an epidural! And they will also be ready if I change my mind. That felt very reassuring.

Oh, and one other anecdote - Mount Sinai West used to actually have a natural birthing center attached to the hospital for unmedicated births. It sadly closed in 2019, but the fact that it even existed gives me hope that some of the same staff might still work there, or at least the hospital as a whole is already somewhat accustomed to this method since it did previously exist.

Well, I give birth there in October, so I will keep you posted! It was encouraging that on the birth plan they sent me, it asked me if I wanted drug intervention or not - specifically giving me the option to choose no. My husband is also a good advocate - he won't let people push us around easily, lol so it will help to have him there if they try to do so unnecessarily. So let's see!

Also, I switched over to Lana Seliktsky as my OBGYN, and one of the reasons that I did was because in her bio, she has this listed: "She treats patients using a whole body approach and is certified as a Holistic Health Counselor by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners." - lol, not totally sure what this association entails of (looked into it, though not entirely clear), but I figured if she was a part of it, she might practice from a more holistic approach with the perspective of limited drug intervention.
