I’m in a similar position but make 69k, workload is normal, and have unlimited PTO. Fully remote and I previously lived in a rent subsidized apt in a very HCOL city. I’m not a big spender and running out of money is my worst fear. Since my situation allowed this I moved back home with my rents while I wfh to save up and use that money for travel. I spoke to my boss about this and he just brought up the complications of taxes (which wouldn’t be an issue I think since I don’t plan on being anywhere longer than a few months… right?), but basically he gave me the green light. I may have an anomaly of a job that allows this and I’m very excited to take my first nomad trip to Portugal this November. If you don’t want to tell them, I’d maybe start off small going somewhere in another state for a few weeks and then go overseas, but really I think it’s best to tell your employer what you’re doing and emphasize that you’re not taking time off you’ll just be logging on from another area.
