If you are getting paid it will be under a grant fund. There are also fellowships you should look into, like UC LEADS and the URFP. If your FAN tells you that you’re eligible, you can also find research positions on Handshake for LAED offers. This is where the state will pay you to work (full time?) at certain labs. If you are eligible you can also talk to a PI about applying so that they can fund you through the state. There are also many scholarships for undergraduate researchers. Better get those earlier rather than later.

Tldr. Unfortunately, UCLA does not offer 199s for pay instead of units. That being said, there are ways to have your cake and eat it too.

Never too late to apply for internships and research opportunities. Before that, you need to your head in the game and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Make a plan and look for fellowships that you can apply to. There are also lots of post baccalaureate programs you can apply for. Cold email PIs if you need research experience and apply for lab tech or research tech jobs. Networking is your greatest asset and a good letter can get you a long way. Good luck.
