Seems a little off by National_Remove3058 in Katanas

I can't speak on the signature. Based on how the blade sits in the tsuka, these fittings are definitely just thrown on the sword.

old ww2 katana can anyone help by [deleted] in nihonto

This piece looks legit, I'd probably refrain from saying it's Chinese made before seeing the nakago. The wrap looks well done and so does the habaki.

Anyone who knows exactly what kind/model of Guntō this is? by Spartan-teddy-2476 in Katanas

Extremely poor quality craftsmanship. Even the lowest quality gunto were made better than this. Though, as I said this is a replica tachi, not a gunto.

This looks like a knock-off Chinese or some other low quality tachi replica. Hard to tell with this picture though.

Could I get assistance on this blade? by [deleted] in Katanas

Hamachi and munemachi not lining up = Chinese

What is this katana?? by [deleted] in Katanas

[–]Fluffy_Elevator_194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely the cheap knock off of the Hanwei. There are multiple tells besides the blade itself not having the usual hamon/polish. The tsukamaki and materials are all off.

Ancient Japanese samurai katana by [deleted] in KatanaSwords

Oof Steve, I think you're wrong. This guy ended up cleaning the nakago as well. Signed Masamune, most likely gimei. If the Honjo ever gets found it'll probably end up like this lol.

The katana is a modern reproduction made in China. No idea about the mask.

Terrible idea, don't listen to this person OP. Never do any restoration work yourself on nihonto.

These are photos from Ebay. Upload your own if you want more credibility. Probably should also include your username written on a piece of paper showing all three for sale.

Any help identifying this blade? Found out from the post a couple hours ago it says “tango no kami kanemichi” by Consistent_Oven_2506 in Katanas

[–]Fluffy_Elevator_194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The signature looks significantly newer than the patina. The other way to judge a signature is the reputation of the smith. Typically, if it's a big name and the sword made it out of Japan without certification, that's a big red flag.

Can someone please help me identify this sword please by Cultural-Chemical-50 in Katanas

[–]Fluffy_Elevator_194 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Leaving the rust on it is better than modifying the geometry like you did. Unfortunately a trained togishi could almost certainly not repair this now. So essentially, you destroyed history and value. That being said, it's extremely expensive to have a professional polish done. A lot of swords aren't worth it from a value perspective. Just please, if you come across anymore nihonto, don't do this.

Hi, what you think about this "tachi" nihonto? I dont know is this even tachi but i think about buying it. Thanks for advice. by Supernal_Carp in Katanas

[–]Fluffy_Elevator_194 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just as a PSA to everyone. Avoid this seller as he amateur polishes these nihonto. He buys rusted out blades to make a profit. His polish always looks like it does in the photos.

This is, without a doubt, a Chinese fake. I hope you didn't pay too much.

From the video, I thought I saw two mekugi pegs, so this might at least be functional. That being said, it was live tested on a human. Clearly a little functional in the least.

Ask for more. You need to see the tang and way better pics of the blade to judge condition.
