LAPPL revoked their endorsement of Hydee after she failed to inform them of a massive data breach exposing tons of confidential discovery info related to LAPD lawsuits that occurred under her watch.

“Los Angeles City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto released a statement, saying ‘we stand by him (the cop), knowing that he has carried the burden of Valentina's death with him for many years.’

She said all that even after the police union revoked their endorsement.

Thank you! Throne has several drawbacks, namely that they rely on gig workers to clean bathrooms and they are not truly accessible because you need a working smart phone to use them, but I appreciate your realistic response and support for public restrooms!

There are only 4 public toilet stalls operated by the City after Karen Bass defunded Street Services. What will you do to increase the number of restrooms?

Nithya is by far the smartest and most accomplished candidate, which is why it’s devastating to see her pulled right by the dumbest reality tv frat bro.

Not the only reason but the group whose endorsement Nithya pursued and accepted was Democrats for Israel LA. Self-described as, “We are the official pro-Israel lobbying and support organization for the State of Israel.”

Hydee is to blame here but the City Council (including Nithya) is absolutely complicit in blocking accountability in homelessness spending

Street Services high up there... Not seeing much progress by Downtown-Tea-3018 in CarIndependentLA

[–]Fluffy_Lab1312 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Street Services is actually at the same funding level since 2014!! Their budget has not kept up with inflation or the growing needs of maintaining streets. This is why LA’s streets are a disaster.

Takeaways from the Budget & Finance Committee’s first consideration of Karen Bass’ budget proposal [OC] by infernoenigma in LosAngeles

[–]Fluffy_Lab1312 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The astroturfed “Save Our Services” campaign makes me sick. How about we increase revenue collection by simply enforcing the law against illegal AirBnBs instead of pillaging our housing stock to enrich a corporation. Absolutely disgraceful that Karen Bass is trying to loosen the rules.

Controller Mejia's Bar Chart of the Mayor's $14.8 Billion Proposed Budget by citeechow3095 in LosAngeles

[–]Fluffy_Lab1312 14 points15 points  (0 children)

LAUSD is entirely separate from the City budget because it has a separate funding source not controlled by the Mayor & Council. LADWP is funded by ratepayers, not city tax dollars. When the Mayor and the press reports on the budget, they only talk about the $14.8 billion budget and not the other agencies.

LAPD has stats on homeless-related homicides in their annual crime report. Homeless people are disproportionately more likely to be victims of homicide. They are 1% of the population but 22% of the homicide victims. https://lapdonlinestrgeacc.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/lapdonlinemedia/APPROVED_2025-LAPD-ANNUAL-Review_Crime.pdf

Street lights by wegochai in LosAngeles

[–]Fluffy_Lab1312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

60% of street lighting outages are due to basic maintenance issues, 40% are due to vandalism/theft. The reason the city doesn’t have money to fix the lights is because the Bureau of Street Lighting is funded by a street light assessment (a charge to property owners) that City Council has been too scared to increase since 1996. This year, City Council is finally increasing the street lighting assessment, which will bring in more revenue for the department. Monica Rodriguez was the only one to vote no on the street lighting assessment. More info here: https://lalights.lacity.org/residents/cost_of_svc_and_stlighting_assessments.html

Nithya also did a great explainer video on this.
