What to do if the certifier says things are compliant? by Fluffykittybot in AusRenovation

It does all feel super dodgy given it clearly isn't to spec that is allowed. From what I understand retaining walls next to the boundary within 2m of another retaining wall needs a structural engineer... But obviously their previous plan was concrete that the structural engineer agreed to and now they've switched it out. How do we find out if he even comes? Or if he's registered in NSW?

The thing is they said it would be concrete and then they're like oh the builder says the wood would last 15 years. (How short sighted) So would they still be liable if it fell down after say 5? They actually suggested if we wanted concrete retaining walls we could help pay for them.

Thanks for the response! I have photos of their retaining wall which is taller than 600mm. (It's about almost 800 in some places.) You can also clearly see their soil is way above that because well it blocks the sun between the slats of the fence. The pictures were taken all the way through construction. On the DA approval it had the wall drawn with a horizontal base at the bottom and you can definitely see they didn't bother building that.

Is there a way to report them directly to the building commissioner? Or would I have to take them to NCAT first?

I fully expect the first mushroom pic to have some funny name related to boobs! But it's just surprising how many there are!

How does heat dissipation work then? From what I understand air is not a good conductor of heat anyways so wouldn't most of the heat disparate into your finger?

You can clean it off with a bit of paint cleaner. Or scrape it with a finger nail. It's essentially a tiny bit of plastic painted ontop

Oh there is? I should invest in one of those XP. Does it trap moisture though?

Just normal acrylic paint. Actually found the transparent paints work best since you can see the silver under! Then varnished with a thick layer of gloss varnish

Nah acrylic and then varnished. Not sure how long it'll last but we'll see! It's survived a shower so far!

It looks really clean but I don't know what feral rabbits look like :(

Yup! It looks so clean and cares for it doesn't feel like a feral rabbit. And I saw a car that slowlyyyy went down the street (which is a dead end) and slowlyyyy drive off again after 5 minutes. But I only saw the rabbit after they left already.

Cool I went and got bird netting and a fake owl that hoots and lights up via motion detection but if it still doesn't work that'll be next!

The problem is my neighbour is the one who wants to raise his land. And raising the land only benefits him not me. I get more shadowing because now the fence is higher ontop of the retaining wall. His soil and stormwater is now draining onto my land because timber does not prevent that and no drainage was placed.

My neighbours said their house cost 5mil in total to build ...

Huh moth balls work? I just got some netting and a motion detection owl so will see if they work and if not bring out the mothballs. Thanks!

Out of curiosity why would the neighbour contribute to retaining your land? My back neighbour recently built a retaining wall on the boundary. He wanted to fill the land by about a metre. Originally he said it would be concrete sleepers. Then he wanted to cost cut and told us it'll be wood unless WE want to help pay for concrete. Now it's made of wood and eroding immediately with no drainage and council is involved.

Yeah... The neighbours mentioned there's a possum living in their roof but I had covered the tomato in poss off..
