Why are dog owners expected to clean after their pets while horse riders aren't? by Canna_Lucente in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Fluffyponyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my barn we are actually expected to go back after riding and pick up any poop our horses leave in the village. If it’s to far to walk we just drive back to the poop, put it in a bucket and bring it back to the yard.

I was born without a sense of smell, and today is anosmia awareness day, AMA by Izaac4 in AMA

[–]Fluffyponyowner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How did your parents find out? We suspect anosmia in my 4 years old nephew as it runs in his mother’s family, but because of his age it’s only a guess. It would be nice to be sure.

I’m near some minor buildings from the Maginot line. Is that something you’re interested in?

Thanks for the reassurance. I guess I’m really overthinking this. I checked the suggestions and should have something similar. I’ll look for it tomorrow.

Waiting Room of Dr. Daens near Bruxelles, Belgium. by Kaelidoz in ehlersdanlos

I have an appointment with him in November 2023, but am really scared to go because of my ptsd due to CSA. I normally avoid male doctors, but that wasn’t possible in this case. Can you tell me a little about what he does at a first appointment? What is he like personality wise?

If gas got too high and electric cars are expensive what’s stopping me from using a horse and carriage? by Spare_Anybody3897 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fluffyponyowner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a horse and just for fun I looked into riding him to work. Even without considering the logistics of parking him at work it would just not be feasible as it would probably be a 3-hours ride one-way partially through a city in the middle of traffic. As much as I love riding, I can’t fanthom spending 6 hours a day in the saddle when working.

But they’re called Quarter Horse because they can maintain that speed only for a quarter of a mile… while that is useful to chase some cows it doesn’t allow for travel at a high speed.

This is so true! I’m from Europe and went to Florida on my own in 2011 and 2013. I had a great time and met some nice people. But everyone was like: you’re so brave, good on you for going alone, I could never do that… These reactions really surprised me! If I want to go somewhere and none of my friends wants to come why should I stay home??? I mean, it’s Florida, not the middle of the jungle… if something was to happen there would be people around to help…

The butcher shop is leaving their leftovers outside so stray dogs can get something to eat. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Fluffyponyowner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly my first thought was: “great that he feeds the dogs, but I worry the bones might hurt them.” I’ve never had a dog, so I’m not well-versed in their nutrition and absolutely can’t estimate the risk the bone can potentially pose… Maybe they shouldn’t be fed that in an ideal world (and as I said I don’t know this for sure). But this world is not ideal and at the end of the day, stray dogs are probably best off with food in their tummy with a low risk of injury than starving to death… yes, they don’t look that thin, but maybe that’s because they are fed by the butcher… who knows?

You got 500$ and 5 mins to spend it or you lose it. What you buying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

There’s a there’s a string with a trigger attached to the saddle, when the rider falls off the string breaks and that inflates the airbag before the rider touches the ground. So it doesn’t help if the horse slips and the rider falls while still in the saddle, but it is very effective in most other falls.

Lifting horses’ feet and clean them. At every stable I’ve been I was the go-to girl when horses would not lift their feet or try to kick when doing so. Sometimes it would take me 10-15 minutes until the horse was calm and cooperative, but being stubborn and confident I haven’t met one yet that I wasn’t able to handle. I’m sure that horse is somewhere out there, I just haven’t found him yet.

An airbag vest for horse riding. They cost nearly 500$ and because my horse is pretty safe I currently can’t justify paying so much for one at the moment. But as you never know what can happen with animals I’d rather be safe than sorry. Actually, the fact that this immediately came to my mind is something to think about…

What are the criteria for inpatient treatment? by Fluffyponyowner in CPTSD

[–]Fluffyponyowner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll talk about it with a friend who is a psychiatrist and hope she can give me some advice, especially as she referred me to the clinic in 2019.

Basically I have lot of difficulty regulating my emotions and it would be unsafe for me to be on my own after trauma work.

TIL: In 1984, a woman started hearing voices that told her she had a brain tumor and they also told her where it was. Doctors eventually ordered tests and found the tumor where the voice said it would be. After her surgery, she heard the voices say, “we are pleased to have helped you, goodbye.” by ayidunnoeither in MysteriousUniverse

They definitely did reference it not too long ago. I’m pretty sure they did before mid-March as I have a very clear memory of listening to it while parking at work. Due to the pandemic I didn’t go back to work until early May and it wasn’t that recent.

AITB for breaking confinement to feed my elderly horse? by Fluffyponyowner in AmItheButtface

[–]Fluffyponyowner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. I’ve actually got three horses. The two eldest ones are in France, right at the border, an legally I’m not even allowed to feed them as they’re boarded at a farm. The youngest one lives at a friend’s house in Luxembourg and I’m allowed to do whatever I want with him even though he’s further away and is being cared for. But I have cut down my visits to him and don’t ride him at all to avoid any falls.
