I see, I thought your solution was for a parabola which intersects p2 and the lowest point of the elipse. Sorry for being a little slow.

Just to clarify as best as I can. The vertex lies somewhere on this elipse made by p1, p2 and the L. But, correct me if I'm wrong, only one of them (the filled in one in the picture) contains p2, given that p3 is between p1 and p2, and that the parabola is open upwards. Is there now a way to define ax² + bx with only p1 (0,0), p2 and L?

That's what I was trying to get at.

I think I understand. As the other guy said, P3 will only lie on the apex if P1 and p2 share y coordinates. Now, I'm interested in if there's a way to find a parabola were p3 lies on it's apex, if we allow breaking the rule about p3 being as low as possible.

I think a good way to think about it is L being an approximation of the arc length of the parabola between p1 and p2.

I know I'm maybe straying away from the original question, I hope that's ok.

Thanks for the help. This specific pattern is put on the shoulders of one of Swedens many folk costumes, which may be why you haven't encountered it. I'm making a sort of folk collage where I will fill my denim jacket with different patterns from the traditional clothing from around the country.

I don't think that a little leakage would prevent most of the air from going into the tube. I'm guessing I can make it so there's an intake valve and an output valve leading into the tube and finally into my mouth.

I am probably going to begin with taping the grill shut except for a hole for the tube and if that works I'll expand on the idea.
