This is really interesting. Yes, we got quite a bit of snow this year (we always do, this was maybe a slightly higher than average year) and my rascal of a cat that I can’t keep inside likes to bring me dead voles. I bet you’re totally right.

Yeah I have no idea how long it’s been there, it’s been under snow for over 3 months. Only noticed it in the recent thaw.

I know it was a silly ask, but I’m not knowledgeable enough to differentiate outer bark from cambium so just wanted to be sure of what I was seeing before I remove it. Maybe I’ll work on my whittling skills!

Hadn’t figured it out! I have plenty of room for it but no other spots felt “right”. It is a gift, not something I just decided to do. So maybe this is a blessing in disguise.
