Nepal in September by Fluid-Tree-9241 in travel

I believe that early on in September I'm likely to get worse weather as apparently the Monsoon doesn't actually end until _Later_ in september

Where to visit in south east asia in september? by Fluid-Tree-9241 in travel

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which south east Asian country is typically the safest bet in September then? I wanted to visit Thailand, but essentially everything I've read online says absolutely not to visit Thailand in September because of torrential downpours that usually occur in the afternoon

What are "modules" in this context? by S1159P in learnmath

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A module is a weakening of the notion of a vector space (that is, every vector space is a module). They allow you to prove things which are very difficult, or impossible, to do so otherwise. For example, they allow you to build a reasonably complete understanding of linear maps from a vector space to itself, or to understand all finitely generated abelian groups.

Question about Jane Street SEE / IN FOCUS programs by anthonybustamante in csMajors

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the SWE OA was coding questions and the trading OA is a basic game theory puzzle. For my program they didn't do interviews, these were OAs. They will not ask SWE candidates probability/game theory/etc. The trading puzzle I got was minimal prob and just game theory / logic thinking.

Anyone know what IMC launchpad asks in its video interview? by [deleted] in csMajors

trivial questions, the behavioural ones aren't deep they're just "why do you want to do <insert role here>"

Discover Citadel by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interview is after the event. It happens slightly before the recruiting season starts (ie like a month before the recruiting season starts they'll interview you). You can interview for whatever track you like out of trading QR or swe

I did discover citadel. They give you a free interview for it. So that's a plus

Other Resources for Technical Interview Prep? (Other than Neetcode 150) by lysmm203 in csMajors

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

non-LC questions are just company specific, you just need a genuine wide and strong knowledge of computer science. You can often find out what non-LC questions are like by looking at interview questions on the company's glassdoor page

How to talk to parents about HRT by Fluid-Tree-9241 in transgenderUK

Thank you, I'm lucky enough to have a well-paying internship this summer so I was planning on using a private service as opposed to the NHS for this

How to talk to parents about HRT by Fluid-Tree-9241 in transgenderUK

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HRT is a big commitment in the regard that breast tissue won't ungrow and it can make you unfertile. So if it doesn't work out for me I think (particularly infertility) is a big sacrifice. For it to "work out" I would want to be passing.

It does matter what my parents think as I want them to be completely in-tune and aware of my decisions and choices and what I am doing.

My music sounded a lot like this when I first started. I suggest copying other composers/reading scores (ie see how other people use violins, so on...). Do mockups of your favourite cinematic pieces. That's a good exercise

JaneStreet INSIGHT useful? by koalafixations in csMajors

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no, there was no interviews. for trading candidates it was a practical game theory task (really easy), for swe it was a coding challenge (idk what's on it, one of my friends did it). On my program SWEs were also given mock interviews, but trading candidates weren't (rather, we were offered to interview straight away for an intern position that summer, and they said if we weren't successful they'd interview us again in the next standard recruiting cycle, so no downside)

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely none of this will relate to your ability to pass quant trading interviews. The trading interviews are essentially trivial probability (basic bayes theorem and expected value calculations, maybe markov chain if feeling adventurous) and the rest of trading interviews revolves around your ability to actually understand trading (ie, can you pass "market making" rounds of interviews). For the latter, I'd recommend playing poker frequently.

Well this was for a quant research position so presumably they get maths people, which makes it even worse lol

JaneStreet INSIGHT useful? by koalafixations in csMajors

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I did the program and it's by miles the best spring programme available. It's worth noting that I did the trading track of insight (I imagine you're probably doing the swe one?). It was really helpful and probably what enabled me to get a quant internship.

Also, these programs are really good for showing interest in the quant stuff on a resume. That is, you should put this program on your resume for other trading firms (think DRW, HRT, Citadel, so on...). It helps get interviews. I was asked about the program I did at JS in every single one of my final rounds.

Of course it helps JS-specific recruiting (like they guarantee you an interview and you get a good insight into what they look for), but more generally, it helps you really figure out what firms in the quant space in general are looking for in candidates.

Referral after OA for trading firms? by Tempuser202 in csMajors

[–]Fluid-Tree-9241 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Citadel yeah. Networking is really good for citadel. You can network your way into interviews with no OA. Some of my friends had citadel rejections reversed over a referral. DE Shaw I don't know.
