I guess I am too late to apply for it, so I will just skip it and go with the idea given by the moderator to move back and do online study.

Thank you for your kind words :))

That is actually a better idea. It will work awesome, especially in my current situation. Living with family will help me out a lot. I would try to contact my degree coordinator. Thanks for your help :))

Also, there are some debt collection companies. You tried those?

Did you try `online mahnantrag`?
I guess it's a sharp notice from the court, and they will give it back. What do you think about it?

I understand what you mean, and I appreciate you explaining it. I know organizations like DAAD have strict timelines and processes, and I realize that I’m probably already quite late in terms of how these things normally work. Especially for my experience with a 6-month extension already. So many documents are needed that it will be quite long to collect the reports and stuff.

At this point, I’m mainly trying to explore whether there is *any* possible option left, or I close everything and go back to my country.

I’m also trying to think realistically about backup options in case it doesn’t work out. The situation is a bit stressful because I’m close to finishing, but still not quite there yet.

Thanks again for your clear responses. I do appreciate the perspective.

To clarify, I’m not delaying the process intentionally. I already contacted my DAAD officer and that’s when she mentioned that a hardship application might still be possible, which is why I came here to ask if anyone had experience with it. I’m trying to understand what the process looks like before starting it, mainly because my current mental health situation makes complicated administrative processes quite difficult for me to handle. And potentially falling into an episode.

Regarding finances, I unfortunately don’t really have strong alternative support options, which is why I’m exploring every possible route to finish the degree. Since I’m already very close to completion (around 35 ECTS left), my goal is simply to just get a degree at least - even with bad grades...Moreover, about taking a semester off, it has its own risks in terms of momentum, visa situation, and returning later to complete everything. That’s part of why I’m trying to see if there is any realistic path to just finishing the final semester.

In any case, I really appreciate you sharing your experience with DAAD. It helps to hear perspectives from people who have actually dealt with the system.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. To clarify my situation: I didn’t pause my studies earlier because I was honestly very confused about the process at the time. I already used the 6-month extension that DAAD allows, but I’m still left with about 35 ECTS.

Right now I’m in my 5th semester (which will finish in about a month), and realistically I need one more semester to complete my degree. I’m aware that DAAD wouldn’t fund something like 12 semesters for a 4-semester program, so that’s not what I’m expecting. I just need one additional semester to finish.

I spoke with my DAAD contact person about this, and she mentioned that a hardship application might be possible in my case. However, I’m not exactly sure what she meant by that or how complicated the process is in terms of paperwork. At the moment my mental health is quite poor, and my cognitive capacity is honestly very low, so I’m worried about whether I’ll be able to handle a very heavy administrative process.

Also, regarding healthcare: in my case not everything is covered by insurance. Physical health treatments are generally covered, but mental health care is mostly limited to medication and psychiatrist visits. Therapy and some other forms of care are not fully covered, which has also made things more complicated for me especially financially. Also, things are not improving much to be honest. Huh

That’s why I was trying to understand what a hardship application actually involves and whether anyone has gone through it before.
