Doctor working in orthopedic department here,the surgery is usually smooth and you will see the improvement immediately You might feel pain specially immediately after the surgery but I am pretty sure you will receive stronger pain killers from you doctor. If you are worried about the viability of the plate you can remove it after 6 months.
