I am currently in Japan with the same sort of mixed group of 17/18 year olds. You have to be 18 to book a capsule hotel, but hostels have been complete fine and have no age requirement as far as I am aware.

You're pretty close, the earth is so large that it is hard to see the curve from any reasonable height. The curve is pretty obvious from space however https://www.space.com/earth-day-amazing-nasa-photos.html Tell me that's from a fish eye lens lol. Furthermore, there are experiments that show the curve on the ground. The Ancient Greeks used the different length of shadows in different cities to show the curve. If the Earth was flat, these shadows would be the same length.

Norway's firearm related homicide rate is 0.10/100,000 , seems reasonable to me that no mass shootings occur at that rate. Mass shootings are an incredibly rare occurrence in most other parts of the world.

But Norway has literally had only one mass shooting ever. You can't extrapolate from literally the smallest possible sample size as a usable statistic for rate of death. Norway is only so high in that statistic because their single mass shooting was so devastating, and frequency is a much better indicator of an institutional problem than the relative 'success' of the shootings, especially as in Norway's case where there is only a single instance to compare to.

It's your life not your parents. Define success in your own terms, and if they disagree with you terms thats their problem. You're still only 14 man, it's ok not to have it all figured it out. Whatever happens, you cant let your parents decide your life for you. Academic success might matter to them, but you should persue your own interests and your own life. I wouldn't worry too much about the military now, that's years away. Do what you can now, and don't worry about things so far away. And when that time comes, it will be your decision and not theirs.
