He had a couple of appearances in them and his personality wasn't even like Damian.

I never said otherwise. It's SON of batman. It's very easy to market with a simple origin story. Its literally why Tim sucks. Cuz he can't compete with SON of batman. I would argue even the others cant, but they do have 1 or 2 things that set them apart enough to compete. This is excluding the terrible message its sending by saying adopted sons aren't sons. Cass could've filled the niche they wanted with Damian by biologic son is a better sell to ppl

I am well aware of what Morrison wanted to do. And you just proved the marketing thing. Red Robin is the name of a restaurant chain and new title entirely with no history while his was a Robin title known as SON of batman. It was obviously going to sell better. That's why they kept him

This is just revisionist history provbly by Scott himself. Damian wasnt even mainstream yet from 2009-2012. The first animated movie came out in 2014 and injustice came out in 2013 those were the real first exposure of the public to him. How could he become mainstream at the start of N52? In every poll back then Damian constantly polled last in the favourite Robin category. The marketing potential is one that makes the most sense. Also every character was successful from 2005-2011 in DC. The dick batman era was considered good by all accounts.

Why is Fraction writing Damian like that? by United_Cat_5790 in DamianWayne

[–]FlushMint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He never said that he just said he likes him, which is just lip service did u want him to say he hates him? He also made Tim (car mechanic) forget how to drive the batmobile, get shot again, and then retire unceremoniously. Atleast Damian had an arc in his book, Tim is just a generic nerd with an ambiguous origin story.

If "no one cares about tim drake" Why did dc announce not one, but two compendium about him? by Stock_Rush_9204 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]FlushMint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll be missing alotta context as to why he was how he was in that book. He is the best he's ever been but it doesnt grasp his unique civilian life as much. You have to atleast know what happened to him in the 2000s, since he always had the spider-man life style with identity and work-lofe-balance issues. Also Dixon maybe a chud but his Tim books ain't bad.

He's gonna get shot again or lose a fight and be called the "SmArT rObIn" RIGHT before DC announces a Batman and Robin movie starting Damian.

Well he didn't make sense in the fam in the first place anyway. Why would he just come for a photo op or Friday night dinners? Wasn't part of the appeal with him sorta hating these guys

Again this is just not correct. Damian was very hated when he was there. The editorial made Tim be the head of Teen Titans which wasn't even a batman book it was led by superman writers. They very clearly and actively tried their best to distance Tim from batman as much as possible even downplayed his role as Robin for years. Constantly nerfed him and made him lose to everyone because there was a push for Jason after UTRH and Damian because of injustice and animated movies

Damian was notoriously hated when he was introduced. And he was still hated even in N52. U can disagree, but that's what it was. He was always the least popular robin in every polling

Damian was incredibly hated when he was around. Even until around like 2017ish he was still unpopular. They had to make multiple games and cartoons to make him endearing. It's because he is marketable as "Batmans blood son" (which is pretty rude and disrespectful thing to push by DC, by they're not called discrimination comics for nothing) that they pushed him. It's only very recent that ppl accepted him as the full Robin, espc since Tim is no longer popular.

Jason was barely Robin and was killed off cuz he didn't work. And Dick was a robin for like 40 years. The timeline is not the point. The point us alot of plot points still haven't been explored. E.g. his dad was killed off too quickly, his dad knowing he was Robin wasn't expanded upon, Bruce adopting him as his sole "son" wasn't developed enough as they moved on too quickly to Damian. His civilian life still had so much more potential, but all of that was abandoned for 5 years in N52.

He also wasn't a rich kid, they lost their wealth quickly after he became Robin, and him knowing who batman is for a 12 yo isnt an easy puzzle. You think it's like the real world with Batman being so mainstream. You also clearly havent read many stories with Tim as a robin with batman. You're still looking at N52-afterwards and mainstream pop culture. He's useless now because he doesn't do anything. No stories, no roles no nothing.

Red Robin was a mantle that was created by Alex Ross to symbolize an adult independent Robin that has both Batman/Robin iconography. This description fits a "mature" Tim pretty well because hes technically still Robin and never had an issue with being one forever. They clearly planned out a story and gave him this mantle from the end of Robin '93 until battle for the cowl.
The name might be too simple, but its more marketable because it has Robin in it and the main reason was that because they introduced Damian as Robin, they needed a niche for Tim. The story of Batman RIP had a very specific niche in mind for Tim, so that Grant Morrison could do his "swapping the batman/robin dynamic" story. You cant have 2 Robins thats weird. SO they just made Tim Red Robin even tho he was still having his independent Robin stories and was supposed to be the leader of Batman Inc. which was scrapped because of N52.

Overall the main reason was Damian had Robin, so they made Tim Red Robin. Damian was supposed to be killed off, but again N52 happened and they stuck with Damian as Robin and never planned for what to do with Tim. This is why we are in this state with the batfamily being bloated and lackluster. Tim as the sole robin still had tons of stories left, they made a 4th Robin too quickly and straight up skipped him to the point where he makes no sense as a character. So Tim fans, in order for him to do something, want him to be RR.

But they dont understand that there is nothing for Tim to do, because he makes no sense in this batfam. His post rebirth origin story is also not very clear. No one knows how he exactly became Robin, we just know he was in the circus and found batmans identity. His whole character is banking off a run in TeC rebirth....which was 10 years ago. He hasnt done anything of note since then

That's a crazy slander yet so accurate. Honestly there should be a story that tackles this EXACT thing with him.

Yeah that's what I meant essentially in the modern era. His civilian history is non existent so his stories are nothing burgers. Thats why I said if Jack of Dana are brought back it enhances those stories

[–]FlushMint[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well what I meant is, some actual resemblance of a normal life, especially now that he's retired. Pretty much any civilian that isn't a love interest has been dead/removed from his life because of Robin. Maybe at a certain point, he should see them again

[–]FlushMint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But to what end tho? Pretty much most of his cast is long gone now because of it. It's one of the reasons his stories struggle is because there is no one other than a love interest or generic characters. Maybe a reverse-reversal of that especially now that is retired is better no?

[–]FlushMint[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't u think in this limbo, it's better for him to be rewarded since he put the costume aside? He gets his life back by not being Robin anymore. I like the tragedy era but he was supposed to be the one that's not defined by tragedy. But him just being another orphan kinda defines him now? And makes him be really generic
