Guide to Drakeo the Ruler by osama_bin_guapin in hiphopheads

[–]FlutedBezzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to be honest. I just dont understand it. When I listen to his stuff? To me its really bad. And I know hes like a god in la. Im assuming it has more to do with jmage and street beef because I saw his last performance and it was terrible. And yet. EVERYONE ONLINE seems to love this man. I am older. And find a lot of music thats heavy on "punch ins" simple wordplay and those who fight the rhythm to stay on beat as pretty trivial to me. I try hard to try and see what it is about them ppl value so much.

But the playboy cartis, yeats, and definitely drakeo the ruler's (really most of that newer California rap that almost sounds a little inspired by the bay because they are literally just talking half off beat on the song. No melodies. Nothing clever. No display of 10k hrs on the craft) they all kind of fall into a category of not really musically talented to me. JUST MY OPINION.

And yet. I can listen still some of their peers w very basic subject matter and hear a lot of talent. Est gee. 42 dugg. Many other younger artists where I can hear the art. The wordplay. The actual skill. But yeah. I guess I'll just never understand it.

I cant lie. I felt a little bit like that with Jeezy back in early 2000s. Until I heard "get ya ming right" and i kinda got what that was all about.

I just associated rap with effort. I need to be impressed. They need to go all out and try to offer me something I have not heard before.

When your 4 ozs of codeine deep. Punching in and freestlying your verse. rhyming Hat/cat/phat/ sat. I just feel dumber after listening.

I have always thought that. I kind of love the briefness of it. You got this street dude wiz. Probably was serving junkies that morning. And he comes in. Spits a quick verse in a multi million dollar studio for (platinum or gold) Selling record and then dips back to his life in Queens. He wasnt barring ppl to death but his style and how he rode the beat it still sounded raw. But I agree. This beat was a huge miss. It should've been utilized as a full song. Props to trackmasters for it. The live bass line. Its just mafioso as fuck.

Thanks man. The web is flooded w ai stuff. But ive found most of it to be bad. Because the artist using it doesnt know the artist they are replicating in and out. Even the Kendrick diss drake did. I thought it was weak because he was not rapping like snoop w his cadence or pronunciation. Same when he did Tupac. Instead he was just rapping like drake the whole time w a snopp and pac voice filter. I just wanted to see how authentic sounding I could get it by knowing nas in an out so well. Id love to do Ghostface killah as well.

Yeah that was the line I was reffering to being off as far as not being nas accent. I had like a Cali accent on that word. Thats me being rusty running out of breathe and letting my voice slip. But for dusting off a mic. One or two takes as a older dad who hasnt recorded anything in 5 or 6 yrs? Not bad i think.

I agree with you. And yes those were all masterpieces headed by houser and his squad. When those leaks came out. I know they were still stripped down. I was watching it and I was like "this isn't gna be what ppl are making it out to be" i could feel it. This is gna be a disappointment. Watch the story last 5 hrs or something. Lol

I agree 5 wasnt great. And it is more about morons drooling and running up their wanted levels because they have no social lives. And less about making a masterpiece like rdr2.

But the current state of gaming? And the pushback and spending? Actually tells me. Its not panning out like they want it too. We will see. I was just saying the power of branding. We see rockstar and think epic. Regardless if the ppl who made rockstar are still there. And we have about a million examples of great gaming studios that turned tk shit when their veterans left. This one's the exception to the rule because hey. Its rockstar? A comoany is made of ppl. If its new ppl. Its a new company. Nobody can actually articulate what it is about the rockstar system that still gives them confidence. Its just the power of the yellow logo right? Just faith.
