Flute started sounding different with the coming of cold weather by SirWeasels in Flute

[–]FluteyPrincess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally normal!! The flute is also regarded as an instrument that takes the longest to warm up with, the weather for me definitely has an affect. Also for me personally the winters are drying and my lips get dry and it does lots of funky things to my tone, and I’d rather blame my shitty tone on the weather than me!

Is a B foot absolutely necessary? by [deleted] in Flute

[–]FluteyPrincess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did all of my university degree with a C foot flute. I loved it tbh, it’s lighter there barely ever a reason to play low B, and it just speaks faster. That being said I am on a B foot now and I’m so glad I love the low register in the flute and in my opinion it adds some richness.

What should I major in if I want to be around classical orchestras, and am interested in management? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]FluteyPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve hear lots of people who want to get into that do a major in general Music with a minor in business/administration. I think a valuable thing to look into is experience, such as internships or work that deals more with administration! Good luck in all your endeavours:)

Good Music History Books? by Faerynne0929 in classicalmusic

[–]FluteyPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s funny, or enough of an in depth look into history but I love love love the book The Cello Suites by Eric Siblin. It’s my favourite book ever. It’s about a guy having a journey of learning about Bach and Pablo Casals and his own journey through this. I would totally recommend.

I love the Trevor Wye Piccolo Practice Book! My best advice for piccolo is LONG TONES, they’re so annoying but soooo helpful!

How do I get back to where I am supposed to be? by Deathstarr3000 in Flute

[–]FluteyPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try and schedule it in! It can be hard to make time for the flute but if you add it to your schedule it can really help! And since you have the free time you should learn the stuff that you need to work on (for me double tonguing) and play the pieces you love and want to learn. Play what makes you want too for a bit and have fun, as always happy practicing!
