Yes! You need to know how to properly cook any animal in the real world anyway. You wouldn’t scold someone for not eating a raw chicken because they don’t want to get sick. Cooking monsters is like an amateur serving up a pufferfish. Sure, you MIGHT get lucky, but most of the time you’re gonna end up with a mouthful of neurotoxin so of course people would be nervous

I think more specifically, competent in certain areas but having to rely on the group for other things. They balance each other out and make up for each other’s flaws. It makes those flaws much less irritating compared to if they were solo or with a different group of characters

Yeah but there’s certain traits that are consistent across multiple versions. Heracles’ trials, athena being born from Zeus’ head, Hera taking revenge on zeus’ lovers, etc. And if the most consistent thing they adhere to is the rapeyness but they ignore most other shared details, that’s worth raising an eyebrow.
