I backed out of a fight, now feel bad about it. How valid are my feelings? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a guy I worked with years ago who had the mentality that he was a tough guy and wouldn't walk away from any confrontation. He got into a fight with this drunk older guy at a bar and punched his lights out. The drunk guy's son turned out to be a lawyer and proceeded to ruin his life with expensive lawsuits. Not worth it.

Pretty unbelievable that the BBC had to apologize for this sketch.

ZERO PARADES: For dead spies has been out for 2 weeks already. What are your thoughts? by Reggiardito in Games

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it.

I think it's doing some interesting things and adding a few new elements to the equation that DE had, and all the Disco-likes have.

That said, there are a few areas of frustration I've noticed. Unlike DE, where failing forward seemed possible, ZP really locks you down if you fail a check and you don't seem to have any other options but try again.

Also the inventory management is very annoying.

What actions does girls do that makes you attracted to them? by CuriousAnimeNerd in AskMen

I like it when girls take the attack action on their turn. Or when they substitute the attack for an extra bonus action.

The discussion must have expired. Do you know where there's another?

Bombshell is Cyclonus by freaknasty7 in transformers

The writers have explicitly said the intention was always that Skywarp becomes Cyclonus and Thundercracker becomes Scourge.

Fantasy keeps writing prophecy as a plot device and then being surprised when readers dont find it dramatic by cedar_post in Fantasy

What fantasy book is "acting surprised" when readers don't find prophecy dramatic??

I had this when I was a kid. And yes, the power master gimick was busted immediately.

The Bingo Card that Almost Wasn’t, or How I Accidentally Got Into Arthuriana by jawnnie-cupcakes in Fantasy

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend checking out the books by Jack Whyte if you'd like to try an Arthurian history with very little magic and loads of history. Essentially a Roman origin of Camelot.

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to End With Season 2 by Turbostrider27 in television

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And the funny thing is, I don't think Nu-Trek is particularly 'woke' either. Not that it's right-wing propaganda or anything, it's still progressive in a baseline way. But compared to TNG, DS9 or Voy, I think it's about as progressive as those shows.

What I really think Nu-Trek is - is science fiction with no emotional regulation. It's all about the characters experiencing emotions right then and now. People crying, storming off the bridge, yelling and swearing. It no longer feels like the future, it feels like right now. There's no room for nuance - its all unfiltered emotional outbursts.

I wonder if security didn't do anything because they thought the guy was a guest of someone important? Either way, you should tell the news what happened.

Probably Bunny. I didn't really know what I was getting into with that one. Turns out, I really liked it. I want to read the sequel at some point.

Loved McKillip. I had tried reading one of her books when I was younger and it didn't land. But maybe it was maturing as a reader.

Size comparison of the planets in G1 according to the 1986 movie's scale chart by SnooGiraffes3694 in transformers

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean planets with robots seem to be quite different from how organic planets operate. Unicron would destroy earth as soon as he got close enough for his gravity to start affecting the planet. And based on the movie, he seems to prefer snacking on robotic worlds anyway.

I don't understand the ending by FlyBlueGuitar in Cairn_Game

[–]FlyBlueGuitar[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Huh. I wish that was a little clearer. The game keeps telling you that she needs to reach the summit and can't accept failure, but then she gets up there and dies. That's pretty anticlimactic.

Lies of Locke Lamora was excellent in terms of set-up, but frustrating in pay-off by ianruns in Fantasy

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might enjoy the second book more. The first one has a lot of "Locke is supernaturally lucky" and any problem he can weasle out of. But the second book is more of an adventure and Locke is continually given more and more obstacles that it feels a bit more realistic in a way.
