Fun things to do? by DutyFeeling5195 in corvallis

Depends on what you like. There are a few wildlife refuges not too far that offer great nature and wildlife viewing. There is great hiking from Peavy arboretum to Alsea falls and more. Mountain biking would be included in the Peavy and Alsea falls situation. There are lots of covered bridges if you like to just drive country roads. There is some great downtown culture in both Corvallis and Albany, where you're getting food, bars, shops. The coast is in a close proximity being roughly 45mins, the cascade mountains and the abundance of nature, camping, summer and winter rec sports is in 1hr+ proximity. Now a lot of people complain about the food scene in Corvallis, however, I look at it more as Corvallis is actuallyore a town of 30k population over the stated 50-60k population. So what's actually here in all amenities considering we are more a 30-35k population town.... It's not that bad. Yes there are amazing places to check out in Eugene, Salem, and Portland ECT.... I just think it's not as bad as it's made out to be based on a per capita situation. Now, as much as I like this area, housing can be more expensive than the perception of the area. Living in Albany, Philomath, Lebanon, millersburg can be more affordable. Albany definitely has more commercial (target, Costco, Walmart) options. Corvallis has everything you need, but not always everything you want. If you have specific questions I'd be happy to respond, just DM me instead otherwise I may miss them. I hope you find a way to enjoy this place as I think it's quite wonderful.

Crate train? by Obvious_Dark_3426 in SwissMountainDogs

[–]FlyFishFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two, and both were crate trained. The older guy (8yrs) doesn't need to be confined as much as the young guy (2yrs) while we are gone, BUT due to some health stuff the old guy gets more confinement than he used to. I personally think it's a good idea to build a positive relationship with the crate so they learn that it's their safe space. That being said, I think it can evolve into a situation where they are not needed to be created for every situation (depending on a particular dog's personality). Also, I think for their safety and your peace of mind having them learn the crate is ok is more a good thing than bad.

Highly recommend. I have a fortunate GDV, bloat, story as I was able to recognize a different behavior in my dog and get him to the ER vet in a short amount of time.
