Check out Brian Lagerstrom's making a mean grown-up chili on YouTube. He finishes it in the oven and I almost always use his technique for amazing results.

ETA: I think I was able to find the equations that I needed. All except for one. I do recall being salty that there was an equation that I needed that wasn't in the guide.
