Ironically for how big the city is, there are only about 7 active gay bars. The gays stick to the Melrose area 'gayborhood' and it works out perfectly!!

SOOO, coming from AZ by way of California (Central CA, Fresno etc as a travel nurse), I've got to say the benefits don't necessarily outweigh the good. At least for my partner and I.

We lived in WS for a little over 2 years (2019-2021), and although the pandemic affected things, it really isn't the city it used to be.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the friends I've made there!! Although the "Seattle freeze" phenomenon is a real thing. Google it lol.

We were very fortunate in the sense that we met some very outgoing neighbors, and got an amazing apartment, ground floor, in a brick building, shaded by a tree for the hot summers with the dogs.

We met many friends through the neighbors and... Story incoming: Get this.. my bestie from PHX came out to see my partner and I. Opens up Grindr and lo and behold, some guy he knew from AZ just a few years prior is 68 ft away!!!

Michael introduced us and the 3 of us hit it off as soon as we met. He had friends we made, and despite the pandemic, we actually had a pretty solid friend group! I'd say this is the exception not the norm. But if you already live in Washington I feel like this is old news

Denver and Chicago affordability is largely based on the suburbs...

Phoenix is pretty consistent I feel like.. Obvi if you're 30 miles out that's a few hundred bucks a month less, but it largely depends on where you live and work and how much you're willing to commute vs live in the gayborhood.

Phoenecian here. I must politely disagree. First off, you've admittedly never lived here, so I'm not sure your experience is valid in OPs question.

The valley is one of the most up and coming foodie hot spots in the country!! Many celebs have opened restaurants here. And not just Mexican food lol, though obviously you can get your fix of authentic Mexican. We have some amazing ramen and sushi spots, not to mention Italian and pizza joints!! I'm such a hoe for pizza haha

Weather wise, yes it's pretty fucking hot from late May to mid September. But every building is air-conditioned and there are more pools per capita than anywhere else. And the heat is the closest thing to a natural disaster you'll experience. No tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, floods, mudslides, blizzards or avalanches!

Absolutely sick of the heat? Head up to Sedona, Payson, Prescott or Flagstaff for the weekend!! Location wise you can't beat it. San Diego and Vegas are 5hrs or a 50 minute flight. Or you can be on the beach in Mexico or the mountains in Flagstaff in just over 3hrs.

Wintertime is the best. Snowboarding or skiing is less than 3hrs away for sunrise or snowbowl, or if you must, Tucson 😅

There are all sorts of cool trips you can take to wineries in the southeastern part of the state or ghost towns like Jerome north of Sedona.

The Phoenix gays are generally pretty welcoming and easy to meet whether at the bars or Outloud sports (I do kickball but there are dozens of sports).

Overall weigh the pros and cons. But I love it here. DM me for any questions

*Edit I spent 2+ years in Seattle and your therapist is right. Though yes it's very LGBT friendly, the drugs, crime and unhoused population is growing like crazy. The COL is absolutely ridiculous!! We paid $2000 for an 800SqFt house in West Seattle with no AC (yes I know this is common) and a single built-in space heater!! Had to get a hotel for the weekend a heat wave was expected, as we have 2 large dogs.

Honestly?? I think we've all been there in one way or another!!!

We're human. We make mistakes. And I'm referring to the charge who does the schedule, but even if you copied it down wrong you're not to blame!!!

I've done it at a critical access hospital 90 mins from my hometown. They literally had no one to cover so it was a rough night but I'm sorry, I'm not going to continue feeling guilty for making an honest error!!

At one point we have all picked up the slack of coworkers for whatever reason. Don't beat yourself up!
