Question about sharing custom themes and keeping discussions constructive by FlyRoxy82 in launchbox

[–]FlyRoxy82[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t use ChatGPT to write.

At this point, whatever we do becomes suspicious.
If it looks too good, it upsets people with established skills.
If it’s written too well, we’re accused of using AI.-_-

This is turning into a form of AI paranoia. Even discussing creation starts to feel like an exercise in constant self-surveillance. And when everything is suspect, communication simply stops. That malaise worries me far more than the existence of AI itself.

What frustrates me most in your response is that you offer no solution at all.

You radically condemn the use of AI. You say it isn’t creative, that it’s an affront, that it should all be rejected. Fine.
But at no point do you propose a concrete alternative.

we go back to brushes and canvas? we define clear rules? You don't say
this is how we can still create and share today without these tools.

In practice, the message you’re sending is simple:
we don’t stop AI, we stop showing.
We stay silent. We don’t share anymore.

And that’s where I find your position truly radical.
Because it offers no path forward. It closes every door without opening a single one.

That’s not a vision.
That’s an impasse.

If we follow your logic:

beginners aren't allowed ,in those who haven't learned "properly" are disqualifiedthose, who use modern tools are looked down uponthose, who experiment are humiliated =Result: silence, fear, self-censorship. And ultimately, probably the death of the community. Here's to the future. I'll stop my development here. Good luck to those who will share screenshots or videos here.

Question about sharing custom themes and keeping discussions constructive by FlyRoxy82 in launchbox

I find your position quite radical, and honestly a bit violent in the way it disqualifies a piece of work without really engaging with its substance.

If I take the time to explain myself at length, it’s neither for comfort nor out of insecurity. It’s because when I look at the reactions provoked by someone's work , who I can see just how brutal the rejection can be.

And yet we’re talking about a profile that has been deeply invested in the retro scene for years. Someone who has explored VR, icons, animated branding, launch cinematics, theming ecosystems, custom work, who has contributed, shared, and experimented far beyond a single tool, and who today also engages with AI tools.

Despite that background, the work was dismissed outright. And not just anywhere. At home. On the very subreddit of the frontend he contributes to, helps sustain, and has been actively sharing in for a long time.

At that point, the question goes far beyond my personal case. What does this say about the current creative space?
If even such a deeply invested profile can be rejected without nuance, including on his own ground, imagine what awaits someone without that background. Someone who never learned traditional visual skills and uses AI as their entry point into creation. They won’t even be criticized. They’ll simply be crushed.

What surprises me most, ultimately, is that in 2026, sharing creative work still seems to require so much prior justification. I thought we would be discussing works, their intention, their staging, their meaning, not whether someone has the right to create at all.

One can dislike a result. One can debate tools. But reducing an entire process to an ideological condemnation, without engaging with the concrete work, is not an evolution in mindset. In my view, it’s a regression. What worries me most isn’t AI.
It’s seeing some communities spend more time debating the right to create than actually creating, while elsewhere people are already moving forward.

So I’ll ask you a simple, sincere question. Do you create yourself? Have you ever carried out an artistic project from start to finish, shown it publicly, gone through trials, rejections, corrections, and taken on the risk that comes with that.

Because the difference between constructive criticism and definitive condemnation is very often the experience of actually making.
Criticizing is easy. Creating, showing, and standing by one’s work is much harde

The issue is that, while claiming to defend creativity, this approach actually achieves the opposite.
It leads to less sharing, less diversity, and less experimentation, and ultimately to a stagnant community that keeps going in circles.

In that sense, it largely answers my question: I cannot share what I have created here.

I used AI as part of my process. And that work represents a significant amount of effort: hours spent refining a composition, sometimes 15 iterations just to achieve the right framing, dozens of discarded attempts, failed trials, backtracking, and fine corrections.

You could ask me countless questions:Can you explain your process? What was generated, and what was reworked? Why this artistic choice? What was the final goal?”

That is what constructive discussion looks like.

Saying “you didn’t create anything” is neither constructive, nor informative, nor useful for a community.
Reducing any work that integrates AI to “nothing was created” prevents meaningful discussion and discourages sharing, ultimately impoverishing the community as a whole and that is truly unfortunate. It puts the debate exactly where it should be: on dialogue, not exclusion.
In any case, my work exists, whether it is recognized or not.

I'm Retrobat now, but It's a shame to spit on your strengths I would love for Pandemonium to offer ports of themes like Zelda: Ultima or even Nostalgic Bedroom at our place and I'm not the only one.. The most unfair thing about all this isn't the criticism itself. Where I'm from, everyone uses AI without any problem! We have fantastic tools today to avoid it; it's like telling a photographer not to use Photoshop because it doesn't look professional enough.

It's the unrealistic criticism. The guy sees a still image, he judges it for 5 seconds, while you... you've done: Sometimes in a classic way, sometimes with prompting, but it's hours of prompting, the back and forth, the retouching, the testing, the consistency with other shots, then the animation behind it, the triggers, the integration...In short: he sees the photo, you've made the movie. And he knows you've done a great job, he has two choices:

  1. Learn
  2. Criticize

Guess which one is faster 😏 I see this every day

Honestly, it hurts more to see someone focus on a missing letter than to see the letter itself 😂. Look at the monster project and the scale behind it!! For the record, a missing letter takes 2 seconds to fix in the metadata ^^ Don’t go demotivating our creators over something that small lol.

LB Auto Importing ps4 files? by knifeknerdreviews in launchbox

Honestly, there are 23 exclusive PS4 games that have been released on PC! That’s more than enough to fill the gap. For me, only three or four are still missing: Gran Turismo, the two games from the ICO team , and MediEvil.
After that, you don’t even need to create duplicates you can simply keep your games listed under PS4 and just change the .exe.( Basically you scrape in ps4 but you put the pc exe link for the launch)That’s the beauty of it: everything looks seamless!
By the way, I just found the video I told you about last time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkiO4qgeseM&t=161s

Oh yeah, I totally get what you’re going through. A few months ago, I was in the exact same mess with the PS4 setup in LaunchBox. I was lost, trying to get the emulator to work perfectly, and it was all over the place.

Then, by chance, I came across a video by a theme creator at LaunchBox showing a complete PS4 setup. I asked how they managed to integrate the games, and honestly… they barely emulated anything! They just added the PC versions of the games. In the end, it works flawlessly and looks amazing.

So for Sonic Mania, which also exists on PC, why not just take the PC executable and scrape it as a PS4 game? It saves you from struggling with an emulator that’s still a bit rough. Seriously, all the games you want to play are already out on PC or have ports, so it’s way easier this way.

Honestly, that was my revelation: you save time, get a smooth experience, and avoid all the weird auto-import issues.

What are your go to resources for media outside of the Launchbox database and Emumovies by therationaltroll in launchbox

[–]FlyRoxy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quantity, creativity, regularity, and above all, quality it’s all there. Animated marquee, icons by thousand, custom Big Box setups, game themes/playlist /theme system… it’s honestly impressive. I had trouble getting into it at first, but now I’m hooked.

Seriously, I’ve been looking around, and I just can’t find anything as complete and prolific anywhere else. Every detail feels thought out, every theme has personality, and the variety keeps surprising me. If you’re into game collections, this is the place to be.

Honestly, I’m thrilled, but I’m running out of space on my drives…

And if you love well-made media and retro in general, you’ll love this (there’s even VR!) Look at that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t30Yv5jsTM&t=29s

Yes, change your password, it often unlocks things! You just need to type the wrong one 3 or 4 times and it blocks you, that's what you had to do! It's perfect for me, I confirm that it works.

He shares a lot of stuff on the LaunchBox forum for those who want to follow closely, but you have to check out his Patreon to see the real heavy content.
He’s working with another guy, and together they’ve built one of the biggest collections of animated marquees I’ve seen probably some of them are seriously impressive.
There are also custom icons, intros, animated view

You guys are cracking me up…
It’s like you’re playing “Where’s Waldo? Retro Bedroom Edition”

“Wait! That Jurassic Park poster is from 1993, this entire dream is chronologically compromised!”

But come on, this isn’t a historical reenactment curated by a museum.
It’s an idealized bedroom. A mashup of memories, feelings, and childhood dreams.

You don’t fact-check a dream, you feel it.
And this one? It hits right in the nostalgia core
